Jomox Alphabase - thoughts and alternatives?

well as an owner of Rytm MK2 and tons of modular drums as well as other drum synths, after loving the jomox bass drum eurorack module, I bought a new Jomox Alphabase MK2 this week! It is quirky but in many ways easier to program for me than my Elektron boxes. The Jomox slays for drums and has amazing pumping energy or can dial down for softer 808 style drums. The kick, high hats and FM synth are to die for. I really can make awesome dance beats faster on my new Jomox Alphabase MK2 than my other gear. The only disadvantage it has is the sequencer is not as robust as the god tier Elektron sequencer. No song mode is available that I have found with Jomox that exists on Elektrons and no good easy way to create, save and load complete projects like Elektron has. I mean yes you can save patterns, tracks to flash memory and name the saved kits but workflow on managing projects is clumsy. Still the new oled screen is nice and I love the knobs per function.

it sounds way better than Rytm. I have to do a ton of post processing for Rytm tracks to sound as polished. Jomox is solid hi fi album ready beat making. I plan to record an album with it. Rytm is better for experimental stuff tho so having both in my studio is good. Live shows I like the screens and easier to view pads on Elektron than Jomox but once my muscle memory is good for jomox than not hard. I came from modular and legacy hardware with crude screens like the Virus so the Jomox is easy to use.

You’re making it very hard for me not to get one myself
Tell me just how bad are the led lights? Are they too bright?

actually not bad at all and once have muscle memory for the combo like shift+13 to do certain functions its easy peasy. The 11 instruments are numbered from 1-11 on the encoders and easy to see. Mutes are simple as well as building a pattern quickly from scratch. my sp 404 mk2 is harder to master.

This video was the reason I asked you about the lights. It’s like a Christmas tree :christmas_tree: You can see it on the guy’s face.
Is there an option on AB to dim the lights?

just sold my ab mk1 onwards no loss no profit just breakeven - am totally spoilt by elektron sequencer and to be honest can get good enough kicks from a4 mk1 using resonant feedback and a bit of effort even found a few presets that are pretty similar to the jomox super duper kick drum so won’t miss it too much good luck to the dude who bought may it bring him much joy

Yea I remember you said you didn’t use it much so that is a good move. No need to leave over a grand laying around.

I love mine so far.
