Jomox Alpha Base Sample Pack by LØSTLVLS

Hi everyone! I’m proud and happy to announce the release of my latest project, a gigantic sample pack of the Jomox Alpha Base!

This machine needs little introduction - it’s beloved by techno heads for that massive and flexible kick drum, the way it turns samples into analogue voices as well as the quirky MBrane and FM Drum voices which are as deep as the sea. There’s a lot going on with the Alpha Base, way more than I imagined, and it’s been a pleasure exploring the device while putting this pack together.

This sample pack contains over 900 one-shots, with the voices organised into their respective folders - Bass Drums (BD), MBrane (MB), Snare Drums (SD), Rimshots (RS), Hi-Hats (HH), Claps (CP), Cymbals (CY), Percussion (PC), FM Drum (FM), Effects (FX), Chords (CH), Bass, Reverb Drones and Effects (FX). Included are also 16 loops recorded straight from the hardware. These samples are provided in 24-bit 48kHz for overall quality.

There are also 12 sample chains provided with the download, including .ot files designed for use with the Elektron Octatrack (pre-sliced sample chains). These sample chains are presented in 16-bit and 44.1khz sample rate so they work better with the Octatrack, though the samples will work nicely in any sampler, hardware or software.

Finally, there is an Ableton Live project (Live 12 Suite only) containing all the drum sounds in a selector rack, as well as separate bass and chord racks, so you can have fun straight away in Ableton Live. These racks contain multiple macros allowing you to change the chosen sample with the turn of an encoder, as well as alter decay, pitch, distortion, compression and more with ease.

Each individual sound has been carefully and respectfully tweaked to gently tame unpleasant resonance, remove super low-end where it’s not required and more or less unify the sample volume across the pack. This ensures the samples sound tight and juicy right out of the box, but allows enough headroom for further processing down the line.

I had a great time making this one, and feel like I’ve only scratched the surface of Jurgen of Jomox’s genius. It’s an intimidating machine that is truly unique and incredibly flexible. I love the way it processes samples, it’s inspiring and inspired.

Let me know if there are any issues in the download and I will fix them ASAP.

Awesome. any chance of offering this or parts of it, as a sydex dump for the alpha base? id love to get some of these into my own alphabase

Ah, not again. Because of your sample packs I already bought a Tanzmaus and a 01/IV. This is starting to get expensive.

Thanks so much everyone, means the world to me! Spent ages on this pack and really hope you get a kick out of it. I love the ‘micro-sounds’ - those fractured sputters and blips that exist between the regular sounds - that came out of the Alpha Base during the making of this pack. it’s a truly phenomenal machine that features some of the whackiest synthesis I’ve seen anywhere.

Unfortunately I didn’t save any of the sounds I made as kits, sorry! However as the Alpha Base is a sampler and sample-player, you could load the samples into your Alpha Base!

Oh yes lol.

no worries shame though id love to aee so.e of the settings as an educational process. particularly with FM synth no matter what i do it sou d never really any good. Also the BD others seem to get sou ds out of this that i dont get close to even though ive been ayong for 20 years!

Honestly I feel your pain with the FM synth, it’s a beast! Just when you think you’re getting the hang of it you realise there’s a whole second page of controls! To start with I found myself randomly tweaking all the controls except attack and release, and when I stumbled upon a good sound, record it instantly because it ain’t coming back. :stuck_out_tongue:

The controls of the MBrane voice remind me of the T-Resonator - those super sensitive, intermodulating parameters that feel one step away from exploding. The reverb also reminds me of the T-Resonator. Clearly Jürgen has a knack for making sensitive and beguiling instruments that are on the edge of chaos.

Made only with an Alpha Base without any additions.

Silly question- how do you load the ableton instruments? Do I need to make a new session that loads the files and then save them somehow as instruments?
