Honestly JoMoX have always seemed to struggle to deliver polished products. The internet is awash with similar issues dating way back.
Any AB mk2 Elektronauts here? Iād really appreciate getting in touch. Iām not sure if itās my unit or version 1.09 or just what it is. But I have never had much friction working with a machine. And Iām not talking about the stuff thatās in the manual. Thatās just getting to know the machine. Iām talking about freezes, not being able to load its own samples from disk. Sampling and storing to flash is really unreliable, disappearing sample buffer content. Copying patterns taking 30 seconds. Operations that do not respond but still do stuff in the background. Operations with no confirmations on screen. Screen character staying on screen from previous operations. Knobs that do not respond, jumping values (that I already heard about) Holy smoke., I can go on and on.
Thought about getting in touch with Jurgen. But if this is not my unit but the general state of version 1.09 and he has been working in this since before Superbooth 2024 I doubt it can be fixed.
I hope itās my unit but I really doubt it.
Any advice?
I want to get it right with this machine really bad.
I love my Alpha Base (MK 1), but only really came to use it regularly once I gave up sequencing duties to Hapax. Itās soooo tasty sound-wise, but I much prefer the Alpha Base as a module rather than a stand-alone experience.
Hi, I have a mkii and can run through process.
Give a numbered list of things you would like me to attempt and I can run through, latest firmware.
Same, I recently got a mk1 and came to the realisation pretty quickly that I would get the most out of it sequencing via my DT2. Itās great for plocks (via midi ccās) aswell!
Yes, thatās a good option indeed since all parameters are accessible through CCās.
Yes and since DT2 has preset functionality you can do easy recall for new projects and get up and running quickly. Dunno if you got a DT2 but I guess itās doable in a DAW or any hw sequencer with similar preset features.
Thank you
To maintain some focus on the issues Iāll limit myself to describing two related ones.
-
Loading samples from SD Card to memory. Tried three different cards including stock card (FAT32 formatted with SD Associationās format tool). ABmk2 wonāt see any samples (even its own stock samples, RAW, 16bit, 48kHz, mono). One time it did see a couple from a list of samples, but was unable to load. And after pressing DISK again it would not see them. It will also not see itās firmware OS file.

Sample from external input then write to flash memory this process is highly unreliable also. Most of the time it will not execute the function (BufferFlash) and save anything to flash memory. If I press Enter nothing happens on the display. Sometimes it will even clear the recording from the buffer, but not always. In the end, I managed to save a recorded sample to flash two or three times. Also during this process the text on the display breaks, leaving out āBufferā (broken text I have in many more processes)
My request (for mk2 users only):
- Can you load samples from SD card to flash memory?
- Can you save a sample from recording buffer to flash memory?
- If so, on what version are you?
Thank you so much!
Alpha Base MkII OS Update 1.10 /Scanner update 16.06.2025 18:14
Some users have complained about jumpy encoders. Reason for this was partly the encoders, but to a higher degree the scanner firmware and the acceleration mode as well, which lets you reach the whole parameter range with one quick turn.
We have developed a much better scanner firmware for the front panel CPU which is to be updated in separate process. How is described here:
OS 1.10 is able to turn on or off the acceleration mode by clicking on encoder 15. Now the encoders can run as slowly as can be, yet without jumps.
This setting is stored along the global settings whilst storing a preset.
Oh nice! I did notice that the sweep was way too slow in the slow end and way too quick in the fast end. Itāll be good to better distribute among the range.
to Jomox AB owners, is the MK2 worth selling my Elektron Rytm MK2 for? Will it do anything better?
I have the AB, sold the Rytm. The AB sounds better to my ears but this is highly subjective ofc. Especially when you use the direct outs and push the vca itās has some tasty saturation and punch. The UX is worse on all fronts, sequencing limited in comparison.
I sequence from my DT2 to get the elektron sequencing experience together with the AB.
Itās all about the sonics for me!
Yeah, I havenāt sold my mki but youāre trading the flexibility, sequencer-as-instrument/modulation options for very nicely tuned analog components that sound wonderful.
You can use the Rytm or similar to sequence the AB, of course.
