iZotope Trash

It’s here - the return of my favourite distortion plugin! I’ve been using Trash 2 for years now, it works great on my M1 Macbook Air, but the UI is pretty old-skool. Not that old-skool UI is daunting to me, but y’know… Modern things are good!

I’ve upgraded this morning and it sounds good so far messing about with some drums and guitars.

Its a nice facelift, not sure it adds anything new if you have TRASH 2 other than GUI/UX improvements (and few things may be removed, multiband compressor?)

I have Trash 2 but my upgrade is $49 not $29. Not too bothered though as Roar is keeping me happy.

This is a surprise. I use Arturia coldfire a lot lately but do love distortion of all types.

Yes very much a surprise, I was sure they had abandoned it. I probably will pick it up, the convolver alone is pretty awesome and hopefully they’ve added some new IR’s

I see it has the NI logo on it now- probably why it is not resizable!

Ok. Being famous for modelling and then releasing this. Whatever. :skull:

I read on KVR that a lot has been removed from TRASH 2 (see below) so maybe its more of a ‘based on TRASH’ new thing? (I don’t think even NI are actually calling it TRASH 3, Just ‘TRASH’)

  • each only six bands for both distortion and convolution instead of six
  • no user-waveshapes
  • no delay module
  • no dynamics module (which in Trash 2 includes a gate and a compressor with up to three bands)
  • a vastly reduced filter module

There is a module in Neutron that is meant to be elements of the Trash algorithm. It looks like this is a more expanded version of that. Im betting it’ll be in Komplete 15 so I’ll be holding off this one for now. I guess it sits as competition for Thermal and Roar and such.

I picked up the upgrade from Best Service for $26.81

Dude, thank you! Purchased now, gonna install shortly. Worth it for the impulse responses alone.

Thanks for the heads up on Best Service! $26 is a nice price.

This is confusing given that the one on the left is the new one (right?)

Trash is probably my most-used distortion plugin so prob going to upgrade as it’s pretty cheap… the features that were removed don’t really bother me tbh.

This looks pretty cool, but I really just want a working copy of Trash 2! :))

I get that it might not be viable to continue development/maintenance of the old plugin, because I’m sure Trash 2 sales have gone down over the years, but it was such a great distortion plugin.

Is there anything out there with similar custom wave-shaping functionality to that of Trash 2? It doesn’t seem possible in this Trash version.

When typing that I just remembered that Melda has that free MWaveShaper plugin. It’s actually pretty useful and somewhat similar to the shaping of Trash 2

Meldas ringmod is hot!

Picked this up for £30 on a whim and damn…think I’m enjoying it more than the AH.

There’s so many different flavours of distortion in there and the convolve is far more useful than I originally thought. Overall sounds amazing and works well for subtle limiting duties also.
