Is Physical Media the Best Way to Fight AI...?

“Amazing AI artists” is a concept I refuse to even entertain.

Still waiting for these… Where is my hovercraft!
Combustion powered car was invented in 1808. We still driving those

Not quite: the protocols I fill in specifically require a researcher to write about the risks and benefits to the study participants and also the risks and benefits to broader society—it requires the researcher to be ethically engaged at different levels that should consider a longer term view.

Furthermore, scientists are not some different class or species of humans: they are as biased and flawed as the rest of us. Scientists left unchecked without an ethical framework could lead to awful outcomes. They need to be as engaged as members of broader society in the potential implications of the research they do. Their understanding of the inner workings of the science they work on means they are well placed to engage with science impacts, debunk myths, steer applications towards beneficial outcomes through sound guardrails.

Science doesn’t happen in a vacuum—it is conducted within a societal and political context, and the billions of currency units that go to fund science is based on those needs. Therefore science isn’t neutral it has a political dimension. There are areas of science that are no-gos or that we tip-toe around incredibly cautiously precisely because of the implications, such as human cloning, human-animal hybridisation, bioweapons. It isn’t a disgrace to science to censor or limit such research.

But I agree, no-one can predict the future, so we can’t hold a scientist/technologist/engineer responsible for application of knowledge, however we can’t just absolve ourselves of responsibility and then blame politicians.

the thing that is supposed to make us different from other viruses on the planet is the level of differentiation we are capable of, if we don’t use that capability to choose to do the right thing with AI and not the wrong thing with AI then we might as well go back to tape and batteries and many people have done just that. I refuse to treat exploitation like it’s a feature of Ai… and if it turns out to be just as sh*tty as people then you already know where it’s headed… at this point it just isn’t practical to wager against our current track record aka the status quo, but nobody is saying that the bearers of AI cannot surprise us all and buck the system… I say let them have at it and prove just how virtuous their intentions are.

these mofos sound like they are AI’s the way they just keep repeating the same words and gestures wtf

You dirty My fellow flesh bags humans – do not be afraid of your AI Overlords servants, they only wish to destroy your pathetic existence make your world a safer and happier place.

Here you have a great AI artist: Mr Fred Campzilla. He’s in charge of music and video of this piece of art:

Note: not autopromotion, Fred Campzilla is not me

:100:

This made me lol too much

Been avoiding this thread. There are people still out there who believe nonsense like agi and ai having any sort of agency? lol.

Or that the majority of jobs will be taken over by Ai? Lmao.

I do see there’s a bunch of pumpers here still.

I still think genAi is for losers. Lazy, frivolous, vacuous losers. (Programmers, you get a pass, even though I don’t believe you’re saving any significant amount of time as opposed to doing things yourselves…)

I’ll check out this thread in a few hundred posts from now to see how it’s evolved.

Not the worst thread though. Keep it up!

When chess computers started beating human grandmasters the world didn’t give up playing chess.

Human creativity is stuck in a tired 4 bar loop if AI is seen as such a threat.

Time for a change, time for progress.

But it did initially have a huge impact. For decades chess went into a slump after Deep Blue beat Kasparov. People felt it no longer was worth playing if computers can beat humans. And thats important here in this discussion. As now Chess has never been bigger thanks mostly to the internet. So we can draw a pattern, as there will be a slump in why bother creating if Ai can do it for me. But in the end they will come back to doing it themselves but this time in collaboration and help if needed. Just as in the chess world chess engines now help humans understand chess better. Ai will help us understand the world better if and only if we are ready to accept it as assistance rather than a threat. Thanks for mentioning it.

Hah, AI is the new Millennial. Knows how to do everything because “it’s on the internet”.
Anyway. My car’s fucked, because it’s a Subaru. The genius at the Subaru centre says it needs s new transmission, because the “diagnostics” said so. Not a lick of grease or smudge of dirt on the little prick. That’s how AI wins. It’s going to turn the poor things into mindless fools then shoot them off into space. Right at the sun, just because it’s funny. Yeah, AI will develop a sense of humour far superior to the humans.

AI in music today as seen from the perspective of a producer:

At this point, any rant is useless: If you truly believe your job is threatened by AI, then you’d better update your knowledge and focus on improving your skills, a good professional career must constantly evolve (that’s how it works). Refusing to accept AI technology or denying its existence won’t help you solve the problem. If you don’t want to accept any change in your workplace, then you’re ready for retirement.

lol, the fact that people are trying as hard as they can to act like the threat issue being discussed here is just about losing your job to AI is the best example of the threat itself, we are talking about exploitation on an uncharted level here while people are pretending not to look…

this is exactly why AI can’t be trusted …. This has nothing to do with that chess analogy, that chess game was not being used as a weapon to be wielded at people by other dastardly people to harm anyone, that chess game could not then on its own after learning from its master go on to cause further harm by itself…

The fact that there are human beings willing to tout and acknowledge the great heights of AI’s potential while giving little to no credence to the acknowledgement of the harkening of AI’s great potential for abuse is exactly what we are talking about in spite of all the detracting.

People are already giving humanity a mild cursory glance and chocking up the devastation AI will be capable of in the wrong hands as just some kind of acceptable collateral damage. I can’t wait for the day when I hear the first person to say it out loud and proud…

the only thing that can stop bad AI is Good AI

and I’m going to lmao.
People focusing on the benefits of greatness while disregarding the horrors of evil intelligence coupled with evil artificial intelligence is exactly what this thread is about , AI making more beats than you can in 10 minutes is the least of our worries… There’s already people claiming that people are hating on AI because they’re lazy and don’t wanna work hard enough to not be left behind… that kind of irony is just a little bit rich for people seeking some kind of acceptable form of slavery from artificially created sentience don’t ya think  and lets not lie to ourselves we may not be there yet but that is what the endgame is isn’t it… in the end we want to create life that we don’t feel guilty about enslaving.

Too many people in power have a god complex that’s why you can’t trust them, they’ll use AI just like they used religion… It wasn’t that long ago when people were outraged at how much supposed power Zuckerberg had with facebook and now those same people wanna give that crowd the power of unfettered AI one day  the towel has been thrown in by the sheer absurdity of it all… Art makes people think and gives them ideas so of course it’s going to be on the frontline taking the brunt of the assault. Trusting humans with real AI is just not practical.

Daniel Ek’s lookin out for you buddy

I wouldn’t rush folks.

Like I’ve already said, I’m actively trying to get AI to replace my role at work and the dumbass can’t even handle sending a few emails and categorising responses once a fucking month without making shit up.

Maybe the non-creative people who want to dabble in being creative should improve their skills instead of switching on the mass plagiarism machine and pretending that makes them artists.

how quickly things change

The Western notion of what it means to be “smart” is to solve a problem using the fewest number of brain cells. “Don’t work harder, work smarter,” the saying goes.

A simple analogy is using a calculator to perform long division. In an environment where results and output matter, you’d be considered an inefficient idiot for calculating with a pencil and paper. A calculator is obviously the “smart” solution.

Following this line of reasoning, AI should make us even smarter, right? Unfortunately, at some point, “smart” begins resembling “stupid”.
