I’m new to the octatrack, just had it a few days. I’m watching the videos and reading the manual but I keep getting stuck at two things
When my scene A and/or Scene B buttons are lit I get no sound. At all. deactivate these and sound comes out. I’ve cleared the scene settings and switched off all FX (incase I hase some wierd setting) but nothing changes this.
I just cant seem to apply FX, to anything. Simple example. Set track 8 to master, select track 8 and put a filter on FX1 (double tap select filter) here the 6 control knobs work as they should and change stuff, e,g, I can crank up dist and hear it. Now I tap FX1 again and go to control knobs to change filter properties but noting happens, no response on screen or in sound to rotating knobs.
I apologise in advance if this is user error but it does seem odd to me that I have failed to applu ANY FX to anything since I opened the box.
You plocked something that cut the sound. Many parameters can do that, Level, Vol, Filter Width, XVOL, etc…
Knobs don’t have any action visually?
Check PROJECT>MIDI>CONTROL>CC OUT
It should be set to INT or INT+EXT
With EXT you can’t control OT (you can with midi loopback in fact, but thatns too early ).
Are you sure you set track 8 as master? The track 8 fx won’t have any effect on other tracks if not (unless it’s a neighbour track).
Not sure why scenes would cause silence if they are empty. You can always see what’s locked on the param screens as they have a black background when holding the A or B button. You can unassign them by pressing the encoder so they are no longer black.
If you are new to it, my advice is to just think of these projects as scrap. Make a new one, learn a bit more with a clean slate. Don’t try to learn everything at once, just focus on basics for starters. I’ve had mine since 2012 ish and still learn new aspects to it. If you try to learn too much at once you will get despondent and not understand why you have no sound etc… end up frustrated and getting rid like so many do.
The OT is a complex machine and many people become overwhelmed early on. If you start with flex machines and learn to p-lock/sound lock, how to assign samples and loops and what can be done on a single track, just stick to that functionality until you are comfortable with it you’ll have a good groundwork in place for going deeper, and you will have much more fun learning that way.
Dude, thankyou! MIDI settings nulling the knob controls, you were spot on. Thats what I get for dicking with parameters I don’t fully understand. Sorry for wasting your time on that.
The other issue is sort of fixed, I saw a few other posts from people experiencing the same thing, I restarted the octa (which is what they suggested) and that also now appears fixed. Possibly a bug but I guess more likely just that the power down cleared some daft setting I had.
I hereby promise to help others if the time comes that I know more than some other poor sod.
Glad you got it sorted. I picked up the OT fairly quickly, mainly because I had an A4 first and learned how the Sequencer works on that. That’s a great thing about Elektron boxes many skills are transferable, but the OT is certainly the most complex out of all of them, it’s an incredible machine
