iPad Music Apps?

I did pick one up but my mixer is in for a service so it’s still in the box at the minute!

@Jimbo @PeteSasqwax

With your help, I now have a little rudimentary dub set-up!

Loopy Pro is an absolute work of genius, and amazingly the cheap akai midimix is plug & play with the IPad & CCK. The knobs are abit naff on the midimix, but they will do for now.

Also managed to find some reggae stems, so I’m all set and good to go. Thanks again!

Anything out there that’ll let me create a loop brace and scrub my recorded audio for loops?

Glad you got it set up without any hassle!

I had a midi mix and the controls are really cheap. I couldn’t grip the knobs (:joy:) properly, so went for the Novation. It’s basically the same though.
A Launchpad (or any other pad type controller) is a great addition for trigger duty with LP.

Enjoy!

K7D is an amazing “tape delay” emulation, cheap, GET IT!

there’s also a couple of spring reverb apps. I have an actual spring reverb, but if i wanted to make dub music with just iPad i would look into getting one of those “spring” reverb as well.

Might work for you. Also DAWs like Cubasis could do the trick, haven’t opened that up in a while though.

I’m looking for a reverb that’s similar to the Digitakt (and Digitone etc) reverb, or Ableton’s Echo. Something that is resource light, and AUv3 to use as a send in Drambo.

Suggestions?

Looks like it should do the job, cheers for that

Think there’s some IRs of Elektron reverbs about, so any IR capable reverb really.

Thanks for the recommendation. What are the best iOS spring reverbs out there?

Good point. I think I even made my own IR of the Elektron verb!

Beautiful to hear! I had the same issue as @Jimbo with the tiny midimix knobs but lucked out on one that had been fitted with the DJ Tech Tools ones (forgot the name now). When I went to get some more for my wireless LPD8 I discovered that Reloop do some that do the job nicely and are much more kind to the wallet.

Re: spring reverb. I have a couple of favourites, both are by Igor Vasiliev. There’s Altispace2 which has a load of nice IRs already, allows you to load up your own and features some great options to affect the sound. The other is embedded in Vintage Rack. Less fully featured but the same quality and you get a gang of other effects in there, some of which are perfect for dub (especially the mighty Mutron Bi-Phase!)

If I was getting either or, I’d go with Vintage Rack. (It has a really tasty delay in there too)

Waiting to calibrate my sound system, I’m on the fence to buy an Ultra Curve, I’m also thinking about using my iPad with a real-time spectrum analyzer, and a RT mic.

I saw the Micw i436 and Analyser, I’m also thinking about buying ECM8000 mic, cheaper.

Any advice ?

Eventide Spring

Goes well beyond what you’re after, but along with Eventide, the best reverb go echo I’ve tried in iOS is Cascade. No too heavy on CPU and I’m on a 5th gen iPad

This looks nice. I also have a few Eventide reverbs, but I’m looking for something more basic. Last might, I did a head-to-head test of the ones I already own, and I like Drambo’s built-in reverb quite a bit.

And for delay, Imaginando’s K7D.

I seem to be in the minority as regards Eventide apps. Very little of what they do does much for me, Spring included.

My go-to delays are the GSI tape units with the WEM emulation (WEMulation?), Varispeed, getting the most use. Mega dirty in the best way and sounds even more lovely with a spring after it, RE-201 style.

Exactly! Since 2019, barely an app that has issues, sometimes tiny labels. Use it practically every day with Drambo and a bunch of auv3. The biggest plus of the mini is that’s its quite a lot lighter to hold!

I have to say this looks really, really nice
