TV startup time is around 10 seconds with an empty SD card. So anything longer than that, and you are already loading samples…
Also, shutdown seems to speed up if you got no data… but not by much, a couple secs maybe…
this is probably the most coherently articulate and unbiased day 1 review from an intelligent person who knows their stuff when it comes to grooveboxes and production
if anyone is interested in using tv in a utilitarian fashion as a multisampler, it’s highly recommended viewing

scoping this thing out, I can see a HF rolloff compared to a control signal in Ableton. But its very slight, tight filtering this time, not like on the Rytm…
Something very odd happens to the waveform representation though. Cant quite put my finger on it… warrants further study…
Also, I dunno what’s up with Abletons peak meters… If I match the peak levels on the control signal and the TV USB path, TV still sounds much softer somehow… suspecting Ableton’s metering at this point, checking with RX statistics…
Hard to say exactly, since I was testing with white noise… I’ll need to test with “normal” audio… some sort of “reconditioning” of the amplitudes might be occurring…
like, take a look at these… I sent a white noise control sample through, and tried to match the peak levels… and they are both -6dBFS (peak), but everything else looks odd. What am I missing?

The RMS levels are completely different even though peak level is same…?
It’s not technically pitch modulation, but it can sound awesome if you mess with the depth setting on that Bus LPF. You can get really nice sounds from that effect without even touching the actual filter part of it.
This person is as biased as anybody else unless they’re living under a rock. I don’t say what’s been said in the video is wrong. But it’s just this person’s opinion on the Tonverk after using it for one day. We all have different perceptions and expectations.

I think what OP might have meant is unbiased in the sense that they’ve never had experience with an Elektron device before. They had no expectations and were open/eager to learning/liking it. They ultimately decided to return it though.

I just formatted one as exFAT and it appears to be working as expected (256gb Samsung EVO Plus full size SD).
Thought I’d finish for the day testing how TV does Ambient. empty pattn, loaded the new delay and reverb to first two auxes, and a hipassed chorus to the third aux. Loaded some random violin or cello patch, set slow attack long release, went ham on the launchpad keys…
TV is a delight for Ambient afficionados, no doubt. You’ll want more than one track though, 8 voices of poly go fast… alternating between 2-3 tracks, using the same sound, all feeding into the same auxes and busses and you’re in business. Schweet

They said: “I’m really gunning this thing against some of my pro level synths.” And they don’t need another device in the studio unless it’s replacing one of the old ones.
So the expectation was that the TV could do what some of his other devices could do.
And as far as i understood it they’re keeping it for now but might give it back later

seems like they want it to function like an mpc, which is totally fine. it’s a very specific use case tho.

Like I said, OP was probably only talking about an “Elektron” bias—an expectation due to past experiences with Elektron gear.

He compared it to a Roland MC707 too. He wasn’t interested in the FX and was only interested in its bread n’ butter capabilities as a sampler. Personally, I’m mostly interested in the FX.

Now that there are a few more owners in here…I am really hoping someone can give me some thoughts on what I am looking for. Mentioned a ways back in this thread…I enjoy things I have made on the Digitakt (OG) as much as anything recently. I really need the DT with an added set of outputs…which has me really hoping the Tonverk can work for me.
I have not seen another using Tonverk like this yet, but I strictly use my DT (OG) to sample records and old music to craft many of my tunes. I do this exclusively by selecting my start points and end points manually. I do not need slicing, or grid or anything else. Just manual settings and parameter locking. I am not “making beats” in the hiphop and/or MPC sampling sense.
It really seems like the TV could be great for this aspect of what I do on the old DT.
I had been wanting the DTII, but I really want the additional outs. I THINK the TV can do
what I want with all the effects spice and routing.

I concurred pretty much with the first video on why TV was worth buying, and “downsizing the setup.” For anyone who hasn’t watched the full 25 mins of the follow up Day 1 review, they’re looking for the multisampling as #1 priority and not so much the effects.
As a flagship mutli-sample sampler, the point in the video stands 100%. If people compare it to other multi samplers, and in this case find it lacking, that’s fair enough. We’ve seen enough so far in the response to support emails that Elektron is rushing to fix the multisampling. So yeah, the review totally checks out…
It did make me think about why I haven’t had that reaction so far though.
I too was looking for one central device but my wishlist for a potential sampler to achieve that was 1, polyphony, 2, printable/sequencable multi fx, 3, more tracks. Wanted an Elektron and was going to get a DTII. When I was looking at the retail prices, the £300-ish difference between a DTII and a TV felt worth paying for those features.
Multisampling wasn’t even on my radar beforehand, and it would be pretty close to the bottom of things I was looking for. With the issues as they currently are it may be best to hold on to start multisampling anything because file management is super important there. I have like 5 pre-existing mutli-sampled instrument I want to get on there, but it can wait while I get my head around the Elektron way, using stock content and single samples.
Maybe I’m weird in just wanting to use it for one shots. Just goes to show it’s different strokes and all that… Thoughtful critique is always interesting to listen to, so I found the vid interesting.
