Introducing Tonverk

“Coming soon”

To be fair the Octatrack was also unfinished when it was released according to many accounts, then became legendary. If only I could find that youtube video.

Loading presets, not being able to audition them with either the track key or keyboard is painful.
Not being able to rename auto samples.
Feels rushed.

Yeah I’m fully intending to get rid of DTII.

Preforming live music is new to me but I used to gig doing analog video (massive headache) and the over the years i’ve learned bringing the least possible amount of gear is almost always ideal. So if at all possible–yeah I’ll probably get rid of it.

I haven’t loaded up my own slices yet. But I do like the prospect of using subtracks for breakbeats. Sure, it’s only 8 slices, but using subtracks allows for some interesting polyphonic chopping. I did download that “round robin” amen kit someone uploaded for TV and just fiddling with that it does feels pretty capable for what I’m interested in.

Definitely feelin some early adopter pains but TV is sick.

Ideally I’d just rock TV+303 and depending on how usb-C integration goes as well maybe a RPI VST host.

I use the unit based on the documentation, shared on the web site. I load samples and project as described in the documentation. In the documentation there is no hint that i have to use only factory content. Anyway good tipp from your side i’ve created a support case. My unit is not as described. It’s ok i#am an early user, i have to sent my DN2 2 times to repair. Now a have 2 of them Hope … . …

I suggest that so that others can easily replicate your steps - otherwise nobody can speculate if you are inadvertently sending buggy content in or exposing a weird bug - using factory content was a repeatable way for you to get an A/B test with a willing participant … it’s obviously not a restriction, otherwise there’s almost no point giving vague anecdotal reports here imho - if it is specific to certain material then support will ask you for that material or the problem project

if your loading of the factory project also brought this error then it would be a different matter … you need to be methodical like a beta tester if you want meaningful help from the community otherwise there are too many unknowns to give you the answer you need - support is your best bet, but i’d be surprised if they didn’t ask for similar info

maybe they have heard other anecdotal reports of this error message and have a different theory

one issue is that i have only round about 4ßß MB, that’s one issue. What i still dont understand!

But as described: When a project its saved successfully and then its loaded successfully (based on the TV display) ànd then samples are missing, after 2-3 minutes! its not useable. For me its not reproducible in steps. Thats a huge of work, such things should be analysed by developers.

What if there was some architecture for innovative third party developers to develop machines or effects for Tonverk? If Fors made stuff for it I would pounce on it instantly!

Fors itself need to make a micro groovebox with opal, basically a controller for the plugin but nothing like this will happen.

WTF!! Niiice !!!

A month without internet (due to moving into a new home) made me miss the Tonverk release ! Sh*

(no email notifications of the release???)

Checking this monster out right now !

:muscle::muscle: @Elektron , Badass !!!

Not done drooling over the video’s yet for a quick look. Had to take a short pause, watching Loopop now. Info overload and i need to catch some sleep too. Wow!!! What a beauty!!!

Not to downplay or be a smart alec, but just a quick question:

The multi Sampling (Auto Sampler :muscle:!)
is there also an option for random round robins in there? Or can this be done by using LFO mod in some way (thinking: analog drumkits and avoiding the ‘machinegun’ effect on eg fills)

Like maybe switching multisampled (sample-sequence) SRC samples + using randomize as LFO?

And could be nice (since you can param Trig everything) if you could also have the different velocity layers trigger param changes? (so in other words have layers of TRiG locks as well - being triggered by velocity or other MOD source, e.g. Modwheel, side chain???)

Besides the obvious: obtaining a ToneVerk now being my main concern and mission for the next coming months!!!

these multi-sample layers (sample strings):
can we also sample/build them from a sequence?

Meaning have the autosampler use/autosample a PTN sequence to be divided across the multilayered loop (so you can have different velocities trigger differen samples/parts of the samplestringsequence?

I already have tons of ideas from watching a few videos, and how i could incorporate and introduce some nifty custom treats into the playground.

aaaarg!!! Brain exploding into Overload.

@Elektron , Love it!

Going to make today be a deep dive and bingewatch/scrape all available video’s and info

:metal:

LOL! I keep telling myself to wait a little longer not just for the initial bugs to be ironed out, but also to see where the firmware update will take this machine to. I’ve noticed that under FUNC + AMP in TV it just says “Setup” and not “Sequencer”, so I am also curious if Elektron has any plans to bring in the Euclidean sequencer at a later stage or not. Maybe by labeling it as “Setup” it is more open to shuffle around features instead being locked in like the Digitakt II.

Fingers crossed I can keep my wallet shut for a while until I see where it goes. Am very happy with my DT/DN II and I don’t want to sell them to be replaced by a TV, for now

I like the approach of just sampling one note and keeping it simple. When you have all those filters and effects, you can load a very basic sound source. My Novation Summit became a brand new beast when I loaded OB-X8 and Prophet 5 waveforms. You could also sample an analog synth with the filters mostly open.

Also, have you heard about no-input synthesizer? Basically, it’s using the feedback from old equipment to generate sound (without any initial input)

Ok it’s growing on me now in day 2. I was tired yesterday and didn’t have the proper brain power to really get creative on the machine, even though I did learn how to operate a good amount of it.

I figured out a lot of things about it. Sub tracks are actually pretty incredible. It’s really easy to make a detailed beat with different pieces of ear candy that comes in and out and pans all around, always changing its sound. You can have a beat with 16 drum and percussion sounds and still have 6 other tracks.

Another thing I like is that effects can serve different functions. For example, the compressor with the threshold up so it’s not squeezing the track is a clean boost by turning up the make up gain. That’s an obvious one.

Less obvious, on the surface the LPF on the busses seems like an afterthought - why do you need another filter when there already is one on the track? Well it has some very cool options all around it even if you ignore the filter itself. Stereo modulation, pitch modulation, it can get lo fi and weird. One of the better FX, imo.

This box is very capable of full tracks. You can split the kick to 1 out, the rest of the drums to another and the melodic and harmonic samples to another if you want, and be able to shape the sound a little more in the DAW.

The compressor sounds really good even in it’s default stage.

I emailed Elektron support to figure out why I can’t get my output gain that loud. I have not multisampled, waiting for a fix on that before I spend time grabbing sounds off ROMplers.

The samples that come with this are very usable. Tons of things to grab here. I threw some of my own samples on the drive, but I have mainly been using the elektron ones and then sampling some synths and records into the Verk.

If you are the type of producer that likes to add little details all throughout a track, and always have sounds evolving and changing, this is an amazing box. Incredible for deep dub styles, and many others. It’s not (at least yet) a choppy sounding box for pitched vocal chop music, or music that requires samples to be finely sliced. That’s not it’s thing. But if I need that, I have other samplers for it.

I need to learn how to copy and modify patterns and string together a tune that I can live mute and perform. That’s the next stage with this box. But it’s definitely capable of full tracks that don’t sound loopy and are always evolving.

When you think you maxed out a subtrack pattern idea and forget you can route it to a bus - that’s a pretty sweet feeling.

So yeah, I am seeing how this will be extremely powerful once they start rolling out bug fixes and updates. It does feel unfinished, but at the same time it has an insane amount of power already.

I am quite a fool and have had a few setups that had two Octatracks and I’m imagining how two of these and an octatrack would be a dream but I’m only considering this because of the lack of inputs.

I can’t for the life of me understand why they choose to have 6 outs and only 2 ins but this is life and this is the life I live

If there is a calculation error in the memory management, Means then i should search samples from the factory content that have the exactly byte sizes (and date?) as my ones and use them in the same order of hundred step? “like a beta tester” No, if there was a memory indication i could help via a little bit testing. Such thing should be tested by unit tests. I have a support ticket, elektron should check that unit. THX

You’ve misunderstood my point, in any case no need to go round in circles here, you will get the assistance you need via the support request.

That’s what got me excited with the Subtracks, that one can liberally sprinkle foleys, transitions and fx throughout a track especially one that is basically an evolving single pattern track. As for sliced samples, can you slice 8 samples and load that to a Subtrack and sequence that? From what I gather you need to create a Kit for the slices?

Interesting. In my quick skim on that imx8, it looks like it may support USB host mode.

Yep. Get your 8 samples, open a subtrack, create new and populate each subtrack. Dead easy.
