Introducing Octatrack MKII

Maybe realiability?

I hope that ongoing OS dev for OT will include mk1 as well, would be cool if mk1 could be upgraded but I expect not due to practical reasons.

And how many people, like me, have been holding off thinking ā€œI’d like an OT but will wait as they’ll fo a MK2 with overbridge eventuallyā€ are now thinking ā€˜meh’.

You know what’s a silly niggle now though too… Less incentive to buy the whole set as they don’t match one another aesthetically any more…

Which is a shame as they looked really cool as the whole ā€˜dark trinity’ set before.

Whats the point of releasing a no OB enabled product nowadays? Really?
I think anyone who dont care about OB still have the mki version… everyone else was just waiting for an OB enabled revision at least… and guess will stand waiting
Having a hard time understanding for whom this product is aimed…

i also think anyone holding off the MPC Live was thinking about the possibility of the OT2 in the works…

Well, this is really good news for existing Octatrack MK1 users.
It means that the MK1 will still be valuable on the aftermarket and the OS will certainly be improved and supported by Elektron!

Thanks for this!

This is true and one reason I will keep my dark trinity as is

Hey, actually maybe elektron are playing the long game, and this box has secretly revamped internals and resumed development…

I remember that update very very well after just purchasing a md mk1 ehehe very annoyed lol , anyways the new update looks great, can’t wait till the rytms updated, ooo new pots, very welcomed !

This all seems very rushed and strangely timed.
Most DT owners will still be in the 30 day return period.
How many are packing it up as we speak?

Forever, the hardware is fundamentally the same such as available memory and cpu I assume from Simons posts.

Potentially good news. I would wait for confirmation of that before getting too excited.

I believe that SD cards require a license wheras CF does not, also backwards compatibility would make different card types a bit less convenient, and I believe that the number of i/o lines is greater on CF cards so changing to SD would involve significant PCB and code changes.

Hi Cenk,

well the question is : not planned or not possible ? As I remember for OT MK1 it was stated it is not possible due to hardware limitations. Is that the same for mk2 ?

Nah, I’ll pass…That’s what i was afraid a revision…Waiting when they release something new

Peace!

It makes total sense from the company perspective. It replaces the production of the old model using same encoder and screen parts as the DT making production process of both simpler. It just updated the hardware from the original. Not an os or new product.

CF is still used and manufactured for specialist tools such as cameras. Happy they retained it.

Wouldn’t bet on it if the internal headroom as far as processing power has been maxed… although if the internals are the same, there is no reason to not update both MKI and II… unless Elektron purposely withheld to force guys to upgrade…

but that would just be shooting themselves in the foot…

seems doubtful, as the new DSP would have to be ā€˜code’ compatible, they would not want to backport the OTmk1 OS, if they knew they were going to replace it.

unfortunately, I think this is the death of hope for a DPS2… if they were planning a DPS2, surely they would have reserved the ā€˜new look’ for it.
as others have said, probably Elektron have other ideas for products rather than revamping the OT?!
