Introducing Digitone II

I’m seriously thinking about selling monomachine and OR machinedrum for DN2, and possibly DT2.

I have never used an elektron box with Track Layering, Euclidean Mode or Arp… To what extent (if any) can these things be stacked? Seems like you could get a real mess of generative sequencing going on if you could

Hmm - can notes be programmed into the arp like on the MnM?

I expected chords being programmed to the sequencer being arpeggiated while the arp mode is switched on (but maybe I missed something here).

Moreover I miss the random mode on the arp :sleepy:

Otherwise: fantastic machine :heart_eyes:
Still have to figure out how to mix the sixteen tracks on the machine itself.

Well you get an different Euclidean mode sequence, or arp per track so they can be stacked that way, you can get quite creative, or make a total bloody mess !

But could you do something like… Using track layering to have Track 1 in euclidean mode triggering Track 2 in arp mode? And have multiple cascading layers of this going on?

Layering is something I can’t comment on, it says in the DN2 manual “layering will not cascade trigs”, which makes think it won’t drive something like the input to the arp

If a synth machine is layered with a midi machine, will playing the arp on the synth machine effectively allow you to control the midi machine with the synth machine’s arp?

If DN2 behave like DN1, IIRC only trigs are taken in account, so that you can set different arp settings in different tracks. At least that can be a way to modulate arp with probability and trig conditions. :meh:
I guess with Euclidean it behaves like regular trigs for layering…

Layers can be used live. I used them with different arp settings, and yellock trigs are taken in account, hope this is still possible with DN2 ! :pray:

Arp stays synced to the beat when you play ! :+1:

@garf - I think you noticed this

so very :horse::horse:!

First impulse is to suggest to consider keeping the MnM and save up but also… I’ve tried to avoid the demos and previews so far and this does seem like a nice step forward.

Would using an audio rate lfo to modulate the wavefolder in fm drum essentially work as a fixed ratio?

@LyingDalai Did we not get this new trig condition?

The LST and Not LST are described in the manual but not this one.

I’ve got too much gear to add more, something would need to go and mnm is the one I rarely use. Mduw would be harder to let go.

Imagine they would‘ve abandoned the DT with the E25s and instead went with the flagships (white chassis) with a Syntakt 2 & Digitone 2 where the ST would be in rytms case + Digitakt Sampling machines and Digitone 2 in its recent state inside the A4 MK2 case.

that would justify the economics :dog: imagine how flagshippy they could’ve been

as it’s all digital I think it’s great to listen to demos and getting hyped about some graphical/functional improvement (looking at you comb -/+ filter) hoping those get ported to the Analogs 🪴 but overall one should not forget that the biggest step in Elektron history is the advantage of Analog components within their MD/OT/MnM behavior, fast and precise.

it’s the Elektron platform! 2 Units, strict rules and highly flexible. peak E :rotating_light:

just add some extras :space_invader:🪜:cd:

Press LEFT in this view for the option to save in the preset pool on DN2, to view SOUND POOL on ST.

It’s there, probably just a mistake in the manual.

if you think the 8 bank buttons are unnecessary „designwise“ they could still be addressed in future updates with more functions like preset selector, voice counts, mini sequencer (perf.), tables like tracker tables etc etc.

I hope Elektron will find a way to prioritize the OS development a bit further and therefore improve the actual machines but also selling more of recent hardware, which would cause more savings without developing too many new boxes. it would be a great path

Let’s hear it!

Anyone has any idea if arpeggiator parameters modulation via trigs is now possible in DN2? Was the biggest letdown of DN1 for me.

I don’t have one to confirm but seems not, they’re still part of the preset not the sequence.

I’m assuming this is how it works but LFOs work per voice right? So if I was to use an LFO with hold, and target SRR and play a chord I would have different amounts of sample rate reduction per note/ voice?
