Introducing Digitone II

I ordered mine from Elektron Distribution Group in Japan this evening. I happened to be on vacation but the exchange rate is favorable enough that it puts me close to parity for USA pricing. I literally sold my OG Digitone last month because I felt like an update was close and I figured with my other toys I could tinker with those for a while and see what shakes out. The worst case was that I’d just buy a Digitone again (it’s why I kept the lid!).

I’m loving the implementation of Kits in this. And a master comp! I couldn’t gel with the Syntakt but I didn’t need a DT or a RYTM because I have my OT2. At a baseline, with more voices and more timbrality, this is perfect for me. The other stuff really elevates the workflow/quality of life aspect.

I think the price is just about right. When you see some gear exceeding £1k these days.

Yes! I hadn’t used my AR and A4 in awhile but recently busted them out and using the parameter slides/note slides was so flipping great!
I’m assuming they are leaving them off so it’s a “flagship” feature, which of course sucks.
The fact that no smaller Digi box has gotten them and they’ve been out for awhile makes me think this will continue.
Prove me wrong Elektron!
I’m happy with my DN1 and DT1 but if they added slides (and more performance controls) to either, I would probably bite the bullet and upgrade.

Please take the time to precise the workflow you would see for this and post in in the Feature Respects thread.

As always, conspiracy theories about Elektron crippling their gear doesn’t match what I’ve witnessed, it’s just totally wrong.
The attention is given on many points, to get the best balance between a quick way of setting things and a depth in sound design, but there’s always a limit to what you can do.

What you wish to achieve can certainly be done with a workaround such as a LFOs.
Compared to the oldies, DNII is becoming pretty serious. Starting with the voice count.

Just watched Loopop’s video on this badboy. It definitely makes me want to ditch my DN1 and Micromonsta2 and replace it with this. Haha. With that said, I feel like 16 notes of polyphony is still absolutely ridiculous for something with 16 tracks.

I’ll wait for a holiday sale or something before I pull the trigger, but I can def. see this being a fun part of my studio.

I ordered a DN2 :upside_down_face:

I ordered one last night and it’s now shipped. ”Unfortunately” I’m on my way on a weeks vacation with the family so can’t pick it up until Friday when get home. But super excited :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I brought the Syntakt so will try to get the most out of it before setting it aside for a bit

I’m thinking of it first and foremost as a 16 voice synth. 16 tracks just means you have maximum control over each of those voices. 8 tracks would have been great on the DN1 even if they did not increase the voice count.

DN II should be at my local store anytime soon. It’s currentjy at the airport customs.

Agreed! Damn thing isn’t even out 48 hours and it’s “why doesn’t it have X”? It’s NEW. There will be bugs fixes and updates. Like it as it is… or wait for something different or enhanced. I’ve never understood the “disappointment” factor. I’ll probably get heat for this but the WHINING…

Stalking huh? LOL

I thought that too, until I worked with it a bit. In practice 16 dynamically allocated voices is more impressive than it seems on paper. For example Swarmer uses many oscillators per voice, so it’s a little misleading how much sound you actually get out of it. Yes you can max it out if you try to, but if you write music with it you find it’s far less of a limit. Loopop shows the voice allocation on screen when he played back the factory patterns, and that’s a better gauge of how they get utilized.

This is a great tip, thanks.

Kodamo Essence FM is not impressed.

Well, thats a bit unfair, but the price range is the same. So its fair?

Its not the same ballpark. Thats true.
But it has multiple analog outs too, but no Elektron sequencer.

At least, it’s an Elektron.

at some point if I need a certain number of multitimbral voices I’ll just get a Virus TI2

Nobody needs to buy anything, that’s the underlying point.

If spec is necessary or excites someone, great! Different strokes, different uses and workflows.

Yes. true, thats why i put that on the table.
There are a lot of synths with voicecounts > 16, so what.

But, there arent that many that can multitimbral.
Like flying to mars is no problem, but synths. oh my, thats rocket sience

should’ve posted into intoxicated thread.
cya buddies!

I think there’s more excitement than negativity overall, and a lot will change when people start getting their hands on it. There are many artists here who are going to do inspiring things with the DN2.

That’s my view on this. Hype is fine, but it’s only real hype when people you know and trust are freaking out about it. That’s when it gets truly exciting. I’m predicting the positivity is going to get louder over the next few weeks.

People have this weird conflicted reaction that they want something new to be great, but they don’t want it to be great. People are complicated
