Introducing Digitone II

I’ll buy one eventually.

I was really considering a Digitone this year but I had a nagging feeling that a new version is coming so I’m glad I was patient. Atm though, it’s a bit of something that needs to go out before something can come in, so no rush to get it. Getting this one will complete my Digi trio too, so that will be fun!

It definitely looks like an FM synth groovebox paradise. 16 tracks, multiple synth engines and probably more to come sounds very enticing. I am especially intrigued by the Drum Synth engine as I love FM drum sounds.

Looking forward to the jams people do on this one. :slight_smile:

Does anybody know if its possible to name and save midi cc assignments like on Digitakt II? If so this will be good progress but I think it’s too bad that they couldn’t squeeze in the midi arpeggiator from Octatrack!

No disrespect, but everyone asking the same question isn’t going to make it happen. Buy the gear for what it is, not what it might be. IF any update occurs, awesome, but let’s give the devs and Elektron a break.

In the video @Gino posted he did exactly what you are asking. Looks like function and hold the encoder pressed in will allow you to rename the midi assignment

Hi all!

While Digitone ii seems to be a great update over original DN there’s one thing that makes me doubt if it is for me. 16 voices and 16 tracks is huge improvement but only two audio outputs limits its usage a lot. For example in my live setup I use Heat+FX to heat especially drums. If there were at least 4 independent outputs (two stereo pairs) you could do much more. If you used Heat like me you could choose per pattern or kit that what tracks go to Heat and what not. I can’t imagine how to do this with new DN ii….

Wait for DNii keys :wink: Or the day class compliant multi i/o will be implemented in Elektron boxes. (No irony, I think this would be a great thing and better than Adat for that purpose - they could even make their own fitting multi i/o box to screw under the devices).

when people cry for more digital engines and polyphony for syntakt dn2 is elektrons answer, perfect.

I think it’s related to if the sequencer is programmed to be causal vs non-casual where the latter would know what step 4 would look like when the sequencer is at step 1 so interpolation has a predetermined length of time like how the older Elektron boxes work. It’s a frustration I have with the Drambo sequencer as well.

Nope.
It’s here. Weird thing is that there are 4 times more tracks, but they managed to make this clearer, easier.
You’ll love it.

This is interesting! I was convinced DN engine will be eaten by Tonverk or alike, instead of having its own dedicated device. Original DN is a focused and intimate experience (just you, sines, sequencer), but I must admit that all of the additions here seem quite useful here.

My favs, besides the number of tracks/voices, must be: new note edit, compressor, +1 LFO

It’s “obsolete”, because it’s “not so cool anymore”. Imagine sitting in a cool cafe trying to show everyone how cool you are and then everyone thinks “Oh, poor guy. He can’t even afford the newest cool shit.”

question: does unquantized recording capture individual note offsets/velocity into a single step?

Everything you learned on DN is still there, one way or another, on DNII.

And that there is a new box doesn’t change a thing for your v1, apart from the price loosing 100€ on the second hand market maybe.

You don’t have to have it. If you feel like you do cause you like the features, you don’t have to have it right now. Save money until you get it, then sell your OG.

It’s a brilliant synth, but DN1 is already a really nice one.

I find the work that has been done on both iterations really impressive.

Yes!
On a chord, each note has its velocity, microtiming and length. So a slightly arpeggiated chord is fully captured in unquantized recording.

This might be my favorite feature.
