Introducing Digitone II

Is it not possible to control midi track modwheel externally (or any midi track parameters)? I am able to map it in ableton CC control using learn but the value does not go through. Can’t seem to find modwheel depth in OB either.

To map external instruments from Ableton you can use this:

Thanks, there’s a similar device in Ableton now. I tried map8 and could not map midi track parameters with that either. It is pretty weird as I can have them recognized with Midi learn but the values don’t go through to midi tracks. Internal tracks work fine.

Going to try with midi cable plugged in so I could target the synths directly and bypass the Digitone’s midi channel. Or shit, I guess that would require using thru and not the midi out I’m currently using on DN. Oh wait, I have a CME U6 midi box that might be able to merge it. Edit: yeah that worked

Quick question: is there (youtube?) documentation on how to configure the Digitone 2’s Program Change midi message? Preferably with other electron gear?

Trying to link my DN2 + Rytm MK2.
I made this thread, but it’s maybe a bit too much

PS: LOVE my setup!

Kind of a dumb question: is that possible to change a pattern for a specific track? I like to jam and improvise, most of the time I just want to change the kick or any percs sequence without changing the whole pattern or re programming on the fly a new sequence while muting it

Nope, the Elektron sequencer always forces you to change the whole pattern. If you don’t max out the 16 tracks, you could use tracks within a pattern for alternative versions. For example, if you use track 1-4 for drums, you could program a second pattern for these on 9-12.

Just did a video where I go through 7 reasons Digitone II’s mod wheel macros are so powerful - especially when paired with a MIDI controller that sends CC1.

I used them to map performance tweaks (filter, FX, envelopes, etc.) that stay relative across patterns and Ctrl+All resets, which makes them perfect for smooth live transitions.

I know many of you are way ahead of me on this, but if anyone’s overlooked these macros like I did, this might be useful. Works on Digitakt II, Syntakt and OG Digitone too.

(The thumbnail is a little “youtube sensationalist” joke…)

Does anybody care to share your post-DN effects? Do you use pedals or other effects to sweeten the tone? Stuff like the Analog Heat etc.?

Just curious what would pair well with it.

Yeah i use MW, BC and VC on dt2. They are fun, but as i said in previous posts, wish we have option to make them internally controllable.
One of requests for update on Elektron digi boxes.
At the moment i pared it with ff uc4

Yeah, having them as LFO targets and/or a dedicated macro performance page would be sweet!

That’s why i am kinda interested in midi loopback option, maybe they can work with this method

Digitone II going brutal

Great work @Jeanne !
Introducing Digitone (1 or 2) like that may be brutal indeed ! :content:

I particularly like drum stuff ! (Some mutes on the crazy high hooverish sound would have been appreciated, personally)

For this, I either

  • clear the track I want to reprogram
  • use an empty track in the same pattern
  • copy-paste the link to current pattern to an empty slot and work on this new one

(None of those sounds are possible on OG DN)

You brutalized it too ! :content:

necro’ing this from 1 year ago, so maybe others would chime in instead

you said “Currently in 1.0A you can layer midi and audio tracks in the UI, but they do not work as expected” — in what way does this not work as expected? I would think Trig Pages 1+2’s Note, Velocity, Length, Probability, Condition, Fill, Retrig, Velocity Fade, Retrig Length, and Retrig Rate should all “copy over” from the audio track to the layered MIDI track. perhaps also the arpeggiator. but I wouldn’t expect any other parameters to transfer across the two types of tracks

People keep saying how TV somehow sounds so much better than other Elektrons. Then I finally managed to boot up my DN II after a longer hiatus today and am just blown away by its sound. Maybe I’m hallucinating, but the II’s just sound so incredible when I just put my headphones in, way better than the OGs.

WAY better in my opinion as well. My current main combo is TV/DNII. Best two sounding Elektron boxes, for my money

i never truly knew how amazing digi boxes sounded until i played some stuff on actual club speakers

the syntakt especially fucking rips but i’m pretty sure this is the actual intended use case for all of them
