Introducing Digitone II

But can I do that to edit note of the trigs?

I’m away from my DN. Have you tried it?

Hold the trigs you want the chord on, hit chord with external keyboard. Continue making music. Or, select trig and Func+Copy, then select new trig and Func+Paste!

Thanks, so I cannot do what I want internally, that’s a bit saddening…

For how I produce that would have been very handy to be able to select multiple trigs for which I want to edit the notes

I’m back with my DN2 now, and definitely one can hold multiple trigs and edit those notes simultaneously with the A encoder on the Trig page while in grid recording mode. I would have thought it strange if one could do that for the other encoders but not the one controlling note value, but my memory is not the best, so I needed to try it to make sure.

didn’t want to start a whole thread for this, but didn’t know where to post general questions about the digitone 2. I’m currently pretty confused while trying to play with some trig conditions in a pattern. As far as i understand, the NEI conditions are relating to the track BEFORE the one with the condition correct?? thats how the manual reads to me. but im having a problem where it is not working properly.

im just having page 1 looping to troubleshoot. on track 10, i have a trig down on 1, 5, 9, 13 w a probability of 50%. on track 11, i have a trig down on 1, 5, 9, 13 with a probability of 100% with NEI(with the line above it) as a condition. and while track 10 is randomly skipping them 50% of the time, track 11 is playing all 4 unconditionally. am i misunderstanding how that condition works?

I’m guessing based on the OG Digitone (don’t have the new one yet). But I think you have to P-lock the probability values on the steps, not the general probability value. So, try p-locking each of the 50% trigs of track 10.

am I the only one having a hard time to understand how designers intended / designed the pool feature?

It honestly drives me crazy… it’s still fast for sound locks but a pain to set as track sound. Or am I overseeing something?

Are there not Sound Banks to build your Sound Pool from?. I thought that Sound banks were for tracks and Sound Pools are for trig insertion.

so there are two kind of sound banks now? I thought it would have been smart to add an additional bank called sound pool to the sound banks I can select in that one particular submenu … probably I’m overseeing one thing…?

I dont have a DN2 so it could be different but originally you had Sound banks that were used like presets, then they made the Sound pool so you could use those presets on individual trigs without affecting the whole track sound. Sound pools are specific to a project and need to be constructed, although that may have changed.

yeah it’s now way more complex … look into the manual maybe to get a grasp. I should probably as well :stuck_out_tongue:

You have the +Drive that stores 8 Banks of hundreds of Presets and is available from every project.

And the Project Pool, that you can load with several Presets at once (I use Bank P, select all, load to Pool).

Pool is handy for Preset locks, if you need e.g. both close and open hat on the same track.
It’s accessible from every Pattern in one Project.

Every Preset loaded to a track is copied, so you can change the parameters and it won’t change the +Drive or Pool Preset it was copied from.

Yeah, I understand that. Just a few things gotten really difficult to do… like try to set a sound without leaving the menu (it works but with the sensitivity of the encoder you’ll succeed probably only every 5th time).

It’s not a perfect execution in terms of usability… like some things are missing in the menu … and it’s sometimes just … feels a bit not fully thought through. Just one layer too much imho… would work if there actually was a bank P. Hm.

You can do this

Currently, it’s apparently missing from Note Edit functionality (i think there’s a good case to ask for this to be added)

However, if you have access to a separate keyboard and connect this via the DNII’s auto channel you can select (or create) as many trig notes as you like (in grid record mode) and then play the chord in via the external keyboard

this allows you to set a chord for every held trig

This functionality could potentially be added to Note Edit too imho - you are just selecting a cluster of trigs to set the same - obviously if the existing trigs have different notes some choice about what happens next is in the hands of the developers

You can also copy multiple trigs at one time, even if there are gaps and other notes in between

But if you paste, you must paste at the first (and a single trig only) position and the trigs spacing and contents will be preserved

this can speed up a grid record sequencing workflow where you want to change/set many trigs in a similar way

I used to use the pool heavily on the original DN, but with the voices of the DN II, I haven’t once felt the need to lock a sound. I may eventually, but up to now, I just haven’t. That’s even with being frivilous like layering sounds, or using two tracks to make variations to play with of the same sound. It’s not out of laziness, though it is a luxury. It’s just that with the extra voices, I focus that effort into other aspects of my tracks.

On DT 2, I’ve been using the Preset Pool as a ā€œsound boardā€ for risers, sound effects, etc, to punch in while playing—works great like this on Digitone 2, as well.

On DN2 punching in the Preset Pool sound replaces the sound of the track that’s playing for as long as you hold it down, follows that track’s RT rate while holding, and keeps the Preset’s arp settings. Lots of performance potential there.

for sound locks it works as expected tho… basically nothing changed from DN I to II. I’m talking about something different. Using the pool as kind of ā€œprojectā€ sound pool you just add vibe sounds you need for this track / pattern / project. Maybe there is a feature in Kits I’m not using / overseeing that does this…
