I’m slowly realizing just how deep the Digitone 2 is. Track layering makes it feel endlessly capable. I made a quick tutorial scratching the surface on sound design using track layering, but the bottom line is that I have years of joyful exploration in front of me with the DN2.
I’ve been having a blast layering tracks for complex kick drums etc. Or adding some noise and crunch behind really crisp percussion with different filter setting for example to make one portion pop out more. It’s really fun having so many voices.
I’ve kind of set up a template (mental) where I do all of my percussive sounds on tracks 9-16, and all my melodic and effect sounds on 1-8. I do mostly subtractive composition so starting with the most complex part of a track is ensures the settings I want to transfer between patterns all go with them, then I can tweak each one from a good baseline.
I’ve been working on getting some Roland CR sounding drum kits, some muted lo-fi Sega Mega Drive style drums, and some 80s style ROM based LMish kits going.
I’m also loving kits, the transposition features, etc. The only thing that would make this box better is if it had the analog Syntakt filters in addition to its own. (having said that, I actually LOVE all of the filters available in the DN2)
It’s been a lot of fun!
Yeah, I’m also really appreciating the ability to stay consistent across projects! 16 tracks and voices is very generous. And yes the transpose feature is another immediately useful thing for song writing.
that video’s great Djst
very nice
Anyone using their DN II midi synced and processed through a microcosm? Thoughts?
The first thing I did when I received the Microcosm was to hook it up with the DN because I knew some algos would do well with the plucky sounds I had on the DN.
The MC is all about experimentations to see which algos are better suited for a certain type of sounds.
Would love to hear the CR and LM kits you come up with. Keep us posted!
Echoing @Tchu, DN was always my favorite synth to run through Microcosm. Especially plucky stuff + Mosaic 3/4 will get you something that feels like someone playing along with you immediately.
Other than that, I mostly used Haze, pattern delay and sometimes interruption. What I always liked about Microcosm was to just capture a loop and then play with reverb and filter for easy transitions.
Thanks, yes the looper is handy for sure. I wish the pedal was more easily integrated as an outboard FX processor for my daw soft synths without having a complicated chain that introduces latency. Currently I’m running my DN II through it via 1/4” and then into my DT II just to get it into my DAW via USB C. Is there a way to loop it back into the DN II without creating a feedback loop so I can skip the DT II as the “sound card” but still keeping clock/sync and transport that using USB C out to DAW affords?
Is there a way to prevent the DNII from recording external notes when using live record? I’m having a live jam situation where a torso T1 is used to sequence Tracks 13-16 of my DNII. However, when I want to live-record a Part on another Track all of the T1 input gets recorded as well and it invitably ends in pure cacophony.
I think you can do this only by using different midi channels on both the DN and the Torso. If the global midi is active in the DN, when you record with the DN it will record all the sequences coming from the Torso and send them to all the tracks
Can anyone let me know if there is a difference between per voice digital (pre or after filter) overdrive and master overdrive?
(and how to access the last)
Thanks!
You can find the Overdrive on the FX page (pre or post Filter) and the Master Overdrive is on page 4 of the Mixer (Func+Mod).
I m so stupid… thnks!!
Hello, I am totally new to digitone 2, and can’t find an answer or even the question I have.
So simple, I know I can edit each trig’s notes, but I am wondering if I can edit multiple trig’s note (it’s the same chord on each trig, but I want to change the notes of the chord of all the trigs simultaneously without having to copy paste each time).
Or maybe is there a “default chord” mode?
Thanks!
I know this but I am asking if I can edit multiple trig’s note simultaneously
Thanks for the GoogleLM tips!
You can hold down multiple trigs on one page and turn a knob to p-lock them simultaneously.
But can I do that to edit note of the trigs?
