Introducing Digitone II

Had a go at some gameboy style chiptune stuff on the DN2 tonight, the pitched noise generator is perfect for it. the arp on a mono legato track can be used to do nice chiptune style arps up to 1/96th, would be nice to go faster but alas, maybe need to double tempo. Can do octave blips at the start of notes using square wave lfo to pitch in half mode. Wavetone with one osc is what you probably want to use most of the time, can make stuff sound more raw and gritty with ring mod mode and playing around with the second osc at 0 level. It’s no LSDJ but can get close enough for some fun tunes.

little update: the patterns sounded different because I think there was a problem in the transfer of some project that changed the voice allocation and the unison state in a few cases, nothing that can’t be changed rapidly.
I still think there’s some slight difference in the envelopes and the fxs but nothing too crazy that I will have to keep the og DN

Mine just arrived and I’m off work on annual leave for the next 3 weeks!

i never had dn keys but i can say i was able to transfer and use my dn1 presets with zero trouble

Really? Interesting… there is a separate thread here about the issue.

So something seems to be a bit strange about it.

I was able to transfer ā€œsoundā€ files without problem from the sound packs I had bought but not via sysex. File.

Yep me too, sounds filed fine, sysex a no go.

Exactly, Sysex Files transfer ( not DN1 Export File Format ) need an update

Attempts at some 8 bit chiptune type sounds on the Digitone 2. Wavetone works quite well!

can you confirm that there are 256 presets in the first bank and 171 in the second? It’s a strange number, just to make sure I have everything

I can confirm. First bank is melodic stuff and second bank is mostly percussive and FX

Maybe I’m too late to share a photo of my new DN2, bought on the first day but I had to reorganize my studio and buy a new sound card before trying it. I thought of an alternative… these are in the main room of my house, and every time I look at them I want to go and play  I have various instruments in my studio even if I’m not very good with synthesis yet, but so far the few decent tracks I’ve produced are all from my Elektrons. Every time I start playing with them it’s like a magic begins… I love Elektrons, I love their sound and the art that goes with them, so thank you @Elektron keep it up :sunglasses::+1::sunglasses::+1::sunglasses::+1:

Love this dude! I’m getting my DT2 one framed as well it’s a shame it just sits in the box.

Good grief, that was incredible, I don’t think I can keep the GAS at bay much longer

Is this sequencable, or merely something you can play with a controller? I read that the DNIIdoesnt have a chord machine so what’s the mechanism to have polyphonic tracks actually recorded?

The sequencer allows for 16 notes per ā€œtrigā€ and you can view and edit them with the note edit screen. It’s a fully polyphonic sequencer

There’s not many videos about it, but this short section on Loopop’s review gives you an idea of what it can do

Wow. I just thought of a great update for Digitone that would probably never happen.
We already have inputs on the DG2 so it wouldn’t be that hard to add on.
A granular engine. Even if it were only able to load on one track. Something like Tempura where we could sample a sound in through the inputs or even resample the Digitone sounds.
For me this would make Digitone 2 the perfect, desert island synth.
One can only dream I suppose.
