Introducing Digitakt

I don’t want to be a jackass, but perhaps people shouldn’t be buying it until they ARE sure what they are buying, or at least not complain about it if they have?

I think this thread is the best indication that Elektron’s teaser approach to selling the new machines is not a good one. At all. It builds anticipation that quickly spirals out of control and which the actual product will NEVER be able to meet. And then the inevitable backlash against the brand/company crops up. Not all buzz is good.

I think it’s better to develop an incredible machine, announce it and release. “We made this thing, it’s amazing. Want it? Ok, click here to buy it.” Done.

This is EXACTLY what I’ve been thinking. I was a long time OP-1 user and the sampling is what I’ve been missing the most, but now could not live with out my Elektron sequencing.

if you sync DT to A4 (to get song mod), you will lose Tempo per Pattern, cause A4 can’t do it

DT is nothing like Op1 really dude… Polyphonic and Slices. Not minor differences

The experience of setting sample edit points looks equally as elegant and visually appealing to me. If you think of the 8 tracks as audio tracks (tape), the DT might be able to offer some people a way to work with that similar workflow, but improved with the ease of all the benefits gained from the integration with the Elektron sequencer we all know and love.

wrong math

I see almost zero similarity between DT and Op1 except they’re limited to mono (except OP1 album tracks). Might as well say that all stereo samplers are the same as each other and then stretch to find some things that are possibly vaguely the same, but totally different

The DT just can seem like a mini DAW with 8-tracks to me is all; similar to how the OP-1 has 4 tape tracks, except that the DT offers a bit more sophistication with the audio editing. I’m only looking at these two devices as devices that can record audio, sequence that audio, and manipulate that audio.

Aren’t you free(er) to then “play” the DT, as you are having the AK play a simpler pattern/more repetitive stuff? Honestly no offence intended, but I get the impression you’re looking for obstacles to your flow. Maybe that’s not the case, in which case, my mistake. I just know this has been my problem on occasion :relaxed:

I hope this DT makes me want to sell my MD. Too many machines on the desk!!:3lektron::aw:

They’re soooon different bro. You’re pulling similarities that could be said of any boxes with multiple tracks  I’d love to have DT sequencer added to Op1 and everything cool about OP1 added to DT. But alas…

I’m not looking for obstacles, especially when there’s so much other gear out there that has a song mode. I’m trying to understand why a company would make such a beautiful machine and then cripple it by ommitting a key feature. I’m also waiting to see if their new pattern chain 2.0 is going to solve these issues.

on the OP-1 comparison side-topic…
Would be something else if Elektron offered an add on lithium battery, that just sat underneath the DT like a shoe, similar to a phone case with battery built in.
I would pay $150 for 10 hours of battery powered DT fun.

Since they both have midi over usb, they’d pair well

They should design some kind of adjustable clamp case battery which could be used across all their boxes. But shhhh, let’s not beckon them to throw more dev time at non OT2/new big boxes (with batteries inside…)

perhaps some entrepreneur out there can figure out a way to make this one work in a different enclosure, compatible with Elektron enclosures

It would give 14 hours battery to A4 or AR, and 17+ hours to DT

back on topic: DT’s size is just itching for such a 3rd party add-on

yep +1, Id love that

Next thing, somebody will tell me I shouldn’t play the Keys. I know a lot of people write exclusively 4/4 groove music, and maybe it’s not a big deal if the drum pattern changes a bar late if you miss a switch cue. I don’t do that, I have a pattern of 7/8 going into a pattern of 19/8 and if I miss that cue, the song is messed up from there on.[/quote]

This is a cereal vs. milk argument. No one is telling you that you shouldn’t use the AK. The creation of the Digitakt doesn’t mean you have to abandon the AK. That’s great that you wrote some songs, but does that mean that the DT must conform to your time signatures? Have you coaxed any sampler into doing exactly what you desire? If so, why not stick with that?

it’s sad that the takkeon is no longer available. it’s what i use to power the AR/MnM/and soon to be DT.

Someone posted this a couple of weeks back… It’s only half the battery-life, but still seems like a sweet option. https://chargetech.com/product/portable-power-outlet/
