Introducing Digitakt

That’s what I’ve been wondering…

as it said : it’s a drum machine and it sample. so, close to the MD
I guess we will have further explanation later like february, march, april

Perhaps elektron will ‘do a Roland’ and charge $99 to unlock each new drum synth machine. Cowbell will be $129 because it should always be a little more.

MDUW User… i just wait for this release before purchasing an OT. Today i really want to hear about the engines but i go straight for the Octatrack i think is the real deal.

For me it looks like entry ticket machine to the elektron world, it’s not meant in a bad way. But what is puplic so far say this is a rytm without machines and digital.
Looks very nice if you not already a owner of the black trinity, but maybe interesting if the 8 Tracks are stereo and sample transfer via overbridge is possible and maybe something like a drive, bitcrusher anywhere…

Digitakt is a sample based drum machine. Each of the 8 internal tracks can play back a sample.

Those 8 midi tracks with trig conditions and polyrhythms will be tasty at such a price.

Well, there doesn’t seem to be anything here for current Elektron users. This is a box that does less than every other box it can be compared to, but combines some features in a way that might be nice for new users. Definitely seems to be a shot across the bow for the MPC market.

So heartbroken that it is only 8 voice. My favorite part of the MD is having 16 voices. But using the MD sequencer seems like such a downgrade from A4/Rytm these days (and I am not a fan of the Rytm sounds, not to mention its voice situation is not much better) and the MD FX potential is ancient.

how many notes polyphony for the midi sequencing? any midi effects?

Is should have a special locking mechanism so you can join two together to full sized elektron and have 16 tracks.

Digitakt + Blofeld = compact groovebox, huge love !

I’ll be a little contrary here, as a standalone box, I find this lacking, but tacking this on to a Rytm / A4 setup would be extremely useful. You pick up digital drum synthesis which fills a big hole in the Rytm and Midi sequencing which is totally non-existent. The sampling on Rytm in my mind is really meant for layering, not to be a straight up sample player, although maybe there are some samples you want to run through the filter / VCAs like toms and kick. But generally I see this machine as being a nice addition to A4 alone or Rytm / A4. Not the use case I personally was hoping for mind you.

I was totally thinking that :). Good call!

8 audiotracks , mono or stereo ?
No mention of layering. Guess that’s out if the question.

I don’t believe there is any layering.

I agree that adding MIDI sequencing for users who are AR or A4 or AR+A4 only is a big boon!

But regarding the digital drum synthesis - that hasn’t been explicitly expressed.
“digital sound engine” in the marketing language is quite vague. That could just be the filters and FX. So, like many other things with this box, drum synthesis remains to be seen.

I wonder if sample loading is like Rytm. If it is then F- this… :0 Unless the drum synth engines are just amazing. Also only 1 GB +Drive? Drum synth engines better be off the hook. Probably why they aren’t talking about them is that they aren’t done, and they don’t want to underwhelm us. Needs to be everything the MD had (can be different sounding, but in terms of overall capability), plus a bit more.

@prints @alfred you might be right after all about the lack of proper drum synthesis. that would make it a lot less interesting to me.

Nope. Wait until release. The synth engines on the MD are good.
