Introducing Digitakt II

Just out of interest, what’s wrong with the DT’s automatically normalizing? I always normalize after sampling and am glad that the DT handles this step for me.

my guess would be live resampling, if you want to record the mains and you have certain volume it won’t be the same, for offline processing I too think that normalizing is no biggie and actually a good thing

It occurred to me last week how badass it would be to have multi-conditions on my syntakt, I was daydreaming about it for a couple days - super stoked to see that on this new box. I’m not super into samples, but all the new sequencing features in DT2 seem killer to me… I hope some of them get firmwared over to the syntakt and digitone, but I suppose that if I were Bob Elektron, I would probably wait a year or so until I’d sold a boatload of DT2s before doing that.

I’ve almost pulled the trigger on a used DT several times int he last few months… now I’m glad I haven’t.

Yeah, slow USB transfer was a bummer to hear… my quick math is that a 4 minute stereo 44.1 wav would take just under 2 minutes to transfer, does that check out?

Is there any chance that this is a firmware issue that will get fixed when they update to get overbridge working?

gotta save something for DT II mkii

Wow the amount of Digitakt MK1 on eBay this morning is already pretty high. Prices are as well… People are dropping their good old one for a new girl/boy-friend.

Well based off discussion yesterday I heard pretty unanimously that:

  • USB type C = weak & bad
  • USB type B = stronk & sturdy

just read through the manual and my now my st is dangerously close to the chopping block

128 steps of midi note/controller data being too hard on a cpu or taking too much memory is really, really funny to me for some reason.

I went through the manual and found some minor things which weren’t shown yet. Like key filter tracking or that sampling starts with pressing play button.
Aaand it seems like my Thomann Order will be delivered on Saturday. There are still things on my wishlist but it’s definitely a very nice upgrade

Aaand I’ll probably wait with selling my OG Digitakt until it got a bit quieter on the used market

type B should be able to do usb 3.0. Perhaps there is a reason why they stuck with 2.0 though

Even if it’s USB 2.0, there should be room for improvement:

“USB 2.0 transfers data at a top speed of 480 megabits per second

Captain Pikant said they got 0.33MiB/s :-o

(Unless there’s some megabit/megabyte shenanigans going on, at which point I’ll nope out of the conversation)

8 bits in a byte

I knew it, dammit! (or … well, I didn’t know, but … you know)

EDIT: Wait, I think USB 2.0 should still be able to hit 60 megabytes per second? I’m the wrong person to be taking part in this conversation

yes, it should be faster than reported under ideal conditions

The larger connectors, yes. I would guess less part sourcing with existing I/O config.

Existing speeds for reference:

0.65MiB/s = 5.45Mbps

I can only speculate as to why that is. Maybe that’s why they don’t bother with 3.0 because their transfer method is so slow anyways.

I reached a mature and disciplined conclusion over the course of the day yesterday that I did not need to upgrade my D1.

I semiwoke at 3am, browsed the internet, purchased a D2 and went back to sleep.

Very disappointed with thomann (again). I ordered in seconds after it became available there most definitely still showing in stock, and now it is saying it’s on back order for after a month.
