Introducing Digitakt II

if you test lit let me know!

If it’s such a ā€œvery minor upgradeā€, how is it making an existing instrument obsolete? The more minor the upgrade, the less it should matter to owners of the existing DT. Or conversely, the more everyone considers the OG obsolete, the more that signals the upgrade genuinely is major.

It can’t be both.

not to be that guy but these mods have had it rough the last couple of days, round of applause to the hardest working avatars on the forum.

When i saw the 128 steps, I was like ā€œOk… weirdā€ and then I thank about the loop page function.
With 128 steps, it means that we can potentially have 8 independent different 16 steps pattern per track. This is a real game changer for Elektron sequencing.

And last thought for the day - the song button is poor placement. So many new places it could have gone that wouldn’t mess up so many current DT1 users. Haha.

True, but as we all know, more cowbell is needed!

So close. With stereo samples this could also be a really good pad box if you shove a few chords in.

I get it’s meant to be a drum machine, but a) their demos are clearly more than drums, and b) they have no real modern melodic sampler option, and even the OT is it’s own idiosyncratic weird box before it’s considered a melodic sampler, and it’s the odd one out in its line up for yeeeears now.

Is crossfade that hard to introduce? Does it require another voice (two if stereo) to achieve or is there some maths stuff* that can render it on the fly?

*my hamfisted reduction of the process of programming the OS.

From the manual: ā€œThe RETRIGS and PRESET POOL trig modes only works on audio tracks.ā€

disappointing, hope they one day allow retrigs to be sent to midi tracks as well.

I mean your aren’t wrong, seems like a true step into the rehash era of elektron, but honestly it still seems like a great device… I will probably get one, there is new potential opened up for it as a remix tool or just a box to make playing live more fun. I already have like 7 years of digitakt experience under my belt so its not like I will be spending ages learning a new thing. Plus my studio is very much not elektron centric anymore but this could be a decent way of getting a little elektron back in my life.

Yuppers…

(I don’t mean to be a downer, tons of cool new features here) but if the DT I never got retrigs over MIDI, I somehow doubt the DT II ever will… :frowning:

if it had some digital engines like the MD/MnM + OT FX and adat i/o or a ton of analog outputs i’d think about it. maybe they’ll make an OT MK3 in the new larger format w/all the i/o of my dreams so can have stereo out per track and synth engines + all this 128 steps business and midi tracks and FX per track and all those LFOs per track etc… and… and … and…

looks really dope! Hoping for a new re-engineered OT MK3! Then would give me reason to sell and upgrade.

curious if pitchbend/mod wheel passthrough made it in or not, seeing as you can assign what that stuff does not I would hope they got that in the midi

It’s a great update but if they added retrig or arp via midi I would have bought it instantly. The retrigs and arps are just an excellent way to organize rapid fire notes that don’t warrant a full trig, because they’re so short they don’t warrant any sound morphing/sound design tricks.

I don’t know how any of you manages to post anything, I get constant Server errors @.@
And now I manage and I have nothing to say. Well, DTII is awesome!

Which buttons are you talking about? (Not disagreeing, just not familiar with this issue…) My DT and DN don’t seem to have any tackiness

Just wanted to say congrats on being part of the launch, your track was wicked!!
