There’s an casual and slightly knowing reference to a “slice machine” at 43:30, with positionable slices, which is pretty promising
That’s a stretch imho, if anything, the reference is conveying the opposite because Elektron ceased calling the machine the Slice Machine (MK1) and changed it to Grid Machine (to avoid giving this impression it is inevitable based on its name imho)
That’s not to say they won’t do something, but I am quietly confident those chaps don’t have any info to even let slip on to give rise to such hope.
If anything, the shift to a Grid Machine now could be seen as a way to open the door for a slice machine later, but this is just a wild theory.
We can all hope, but not based on that clip imho
Really ? They obviously know a lot more insider info than the average Elektron user. They are both Elektron employees, right ?
EDIT: Ok, I re-watched and I see they said “I don’t see why not” which is a long way from a suggestion that it’s coming.
Probably. They confirmed that they’re working on Mono sampling (or was it already confirmed?).
the sidechained compressor being triggered by the muted kick is a really awesome and helpful tip- for those of you who don’t want to watch them figure it out-
- in audio routing, take the kick track out of “to main”
- in your compressor settings, set the kick track as the source
- make sure your side chain filter is set to lowpass (a negative value)
- you can duplicate your kick track to another one but keep it routed to main and still have a compressed (or uncompressed) kick while maintaining the sidechain effect
in a review of actress’ latest album it was noted that he will “often use sidechain compression to carve out kick drums, giving them the effect of railroad signals strobing on a foggy night” and i now think about how that kind of texture and imagery is possible with the dt2, especially with the new flexibility of the multimode filter
definitely my undisputed favorite piece of gear
Note that this can also be done in Syntakt with the AFX bus.
Yes, routings are really awesome, I wish they were available on every box
A little off thread but… doing this in the Syntakt FX track can get into serious pumping/ducking territory, IME even more than could be achieved with even the most extreme compressor settings + kick sidechain on the DT or DT2.
Routing all ST tracks plus external inputs (which I’ve connected to the DT main outs) to the ST FX track, adding ‘four on the floor’ trigs then playing around with the ST FX track Amp envelope and depth is a lot of fun. Can get some pretty wild outcomes.
I prefer it to using the DT compressor which is why I have the ST at the end of the audio chain. The ST FX track is a bit like a poor man’s Analog Heat + FX for me… makes it so easy to run the whole track through the FX track filter for HPF sweeps etc for transitions.
This is my first Elektron digi device, I was surprised to find the FX page of MIDI machines/tracks are totally blank and not used. Seems like a big missed opportunity for something like, I dunno… an nice MIDI arp maybe?
Unfortunately (to my knowledge). Only the Octatrack has midi arp. The only real complete machine they ever did it seems.
Hi all! Can someone explain what midi settings should be for midi learn between Digitakt II and, for example, Syntakt? I tried different options, chose the same channels, etc. but midi learn didn’t work. There is no clear information on this topic in the manual either.
question for people using page loops, anyone tried locking on a page with trig conditions? how does it behave? just wondering if it’s any different then the rytm’s page loops or it’s the same behavior…
explained in more details here:
first time I see DT2 available in most shops in Germany for a longer time
Just want to say the ability to switch between two kits mid beat on the same pattern performatively is really cool.
FUNC+YES to temp save your pattern
Enter performance mode
Load a kit
FUNC+YES to save that kit to temp
FUNC+NO to reload
FUNC+Perform to go back to performance mode
Repeat
Finally got myself a Digitakt 2. Didn’t know what to expect but I must say, I totally love it! What a fast and immediate workflow, just super great for happy accidents too. It feels like an instrument, definitely good when you want to break out of a DAW.
Don’t get me wrong, I still finish all my tracks in Ableton and I don’t care too much about going all dawless, for me hybrid is the way.
Anyway, it’s been 3 days and I haven’t stopped using it. I paired with the Labyrinth and the Eventide H90 and my god, what a cool and immediate setup! Already made 4 patterns that I really like which can be a basis of a new EP. But I don’t care about finishing tracks atm, I’m all in having fun!
So far it seems pretty stable to me as well, I updated with the latest firmware and has been rock solid.
On the wishlists side, I wish it had more effects + not only just one send effect. If it had insert effects instead or maybe two send effects then you could do even crazier stuff. Maybe with the new power it has, this will be possible in the future. Slicing would also be good but I don’t miss it that much as there are workarounds that. Would be great to have it though!
And finally a granular engine would make this a dream machine. But I alredy love it for what it is and can see having fun with it for a very long time.
Congrats Elektron, this might become more loved for me than the Syntakt which I didn’t think was possible!
I’m not sure I understand you correctly, but there are three send effects: delay, chorus, and reverb. Bit reduction, sample rate reduction, overdrive, and multiple filter or EQ options per track.
Yeah, but there’s only one delay that’s shared across. I wish it has at least two delays so I can have different time signatures.
Would be nice to have different reverb algorithms too.
on rytm I use retrigs with velocity mod to simulate secondary delay, although I would love to have a delay similar to the Ableton Live “Filter Delay” where you have 3 separate delays that can have individual signatures and panning
