this comment makes me want to get the +FX…then again I found such a good deal on a new mkII that I can’t really justify the price difference.
3 LFOs also sounds interesting though…

For curiosity and personal knowledge :
I know that the Heat plugin is used differently than the other Elektron plugins (DT, DN, A4, ST or AR) but as anyone ever asked Elektron why we can’t use the physical Inputs of the Heat (I, II, +FX) with Overbridge?
Thanks!
I did send a Support ticket to Elektron this morning but it’s the weekend and there’s Holidays too.
Edit : it would be a game changer, for me, if Elektron could create a separate plugin called Analog Heat Inputs.
I had a similar problem when I was trying to install Overbridge (for the first time ever and for a different device, tho, so might not solve your issue) and the thing for me was that I hadn’t switched “Use Audio Units” on in Ableton Preferences > Plugins.
If you’ve used OB successfully in the past on the same computer I don’t know why that would’ve switched off but just wanted to throw this out there cos I also installed and uninstalled OB several times before realising this was the issue.
When it came out I immediately thought it was overpriced.
At the time I was looking for individual effects for my mixer.
Didn’t take long to realize that the +FX is not overpriced and is actually spot on price wise.
All those things individually would cost twice as much.
That said, the best part of the +FX is what already exists in the MKII
Used it on an OB-6 in this Chopin’s Nocturne intro. Refrained from using the warble effect for the piano, but I might do Vangelis’ Memories of Green next, and then…
i would be so tempted, if there was a digital stereo fixed filterbank included…it would be unbelievable together with the analog parts
Stupid question time, if I used usb out of an iPad does the audio go through the heat block and the digital fx?
Not sure what I’m missing, but I can’t seem to use overbridge while sending an analog signal into Heat + FX. I’m pretty sure I was able to use it on the Heat mkII (maybeI’m making that up and thinking of other elektron boxes…), and adjust my modulation there on the larger screen rather than the tiny one. If I have it set to USB or audio and USB then obviously overbridge isn’t accessible, but if set to overbridge then I can’t hear my music going into the Heat + FX via audio inputs. Anyone?
By the way, if you’re thinking about getting one, and you liked the Heat, this is transformative. I’ve never heard my music sound this good, not just full and big, but incredible modulation options, really unexpected results (and I’ve used a lot of modular and different pedals, synths, etc.)
You can change the audio routing in the settings to make this happen. You have several options to pipe audio through the AHFX. From usb or the physical inputs. It’s probably set to be used as an insert effect in your daw :).
Just got mine this week. And it’s indeed very cool! My mkii is looking worried.
Is it possible to achieve sidechain compression with the heat+fx ?
let’s say with one of the cv inputs for example ?
Thanks a lot Dave! Big fan you your stuff.
I don’t have one, but I’d wager it is possible given Elektron’s extensive modulation options. If not actual sidechain compression, then a good ducking effect
Anyone try and put AH overbridge as plugin on a bus in a DAW, and then route tracks to the bus? Does this work? Might be a way to overcome the fact that you can’t use more than one overbridge instance?
Yes
Yes
It makes the AHFX basically a send fx, and it will process all audio send to it simultaneously. So you still have the limit of one AHFX, and it will respond to all audio it receives.
Quick question: How fast can you switch between different presets on this device? Would it, for example, be possible to map program changes to keys on the keyboard and then sort of play the presets in real time?
There’s an audible gap whenever you change the overdrive mode (“character”). Apart from that, you can control every single parameter of this device via Midi CCs, which is the way I do it from the Digitakt
Oh yeah… Now that you mention it, I’ve seen this delay on demos. So, what about using presets that used the same overdrive mode? Are the changes as instantaneous as changing parameters via directly via midi CC?
Awesome. You rule.
