I always wished the Analog Heat had a compressor. Yes, you could imitate one with the envelope follower but it still was a workaround.
Now, the AH+FX comes with a real compressor and a Bass focus effect. Together with the analog heating circuitry and its envelope follower and EQ makes this a very interesting and versatile “Dawless mastering device”.
And it looks awesome too, very slick with the black encoders and dial.
I wonder if this is the same compressor as on the digitakt… would be nice to see a soft knee response here I think as this is now like a total mastering box. I think one might be in my future either way… would free up one of my euro multi effects for something more fun than compression.
I don’t think that I’m the target customer for this, and have never owned a Heat (mk1 or mk2) in the past… but here are a few uninformed opinions:
This box is only $200 more than the standard Heat, right? I would think that has to be a hell of a bargain for a user/fan of the previous models.
I can see why one might want a built-in parameter-lock whizbang sequencer, but wouldn’t that have made the UI needlessly cumbersome? And we all have options to sequence it via CC already (DT/A4/OT/DAW etc) right?
I’m someone who has a lot of options to distort/warm/fx things in hardware, but I can see that the real value of a box like this is to be able to save the parameters of all those analog/digital bits and bobs configured in presets for instant recall, AND with OB connectivity. For that, it seems like a deal to me.
I don’t think it’s possible because the distortion circuits are analog and would need da/ad converters for every channel. For usable average summing only the first 3 distortion circuits could be usable and those don’t come in pairs. Perhaps the fx could be split but when using Overbridge you already are in the daw and use vst fx as inserts.
Hmmmmm…. Wonder if it’s worth selling my Oto boxes for this. I love them but don’t like the lack of USB Midi… also they don’t have power switches lol.
I’m strongly considering it that’s for sure. It would simplify my setup but are these just the regular Chorus and Reverb algorithms we have in the Digi boxes?
No, it’s only $50 more than the mk 2 according to the Elektron website (new prices obvs). Which makes it a no-brainer if you’re getting a new one, I think (my AH is safe… for now)
I so have to admit, for someone who buys the AH for the first time, or if this was MKI it’s a great choice and product. Honestly im just a bit disappointed that my current device doesn’t have this additional features.
It’s still a audio interface to. I think its the only audio interface on the planet with FX, filters and distortions.
I’d be tempted if they added the ability to switch the CV inputs to an additional stereo input in a firmware update (provided the hardware would be able to handle this). Imagine sending a drum machine through the bit reduction and distortion, and a synth through the delay, warble and reverb and only then tie them together with the bass focus and compressor. As it stands now, the FX don’t seem to unfold their whole potential in a single chain.
This looks awesome. I had the AH Mk2 for a couple years and really enjoyed it, I used it in conjunction with a SP for mutil effects for end of chain. This is kinda like a high level version of that. The flow feature and my favorite types of digital effects, plus 3 LFOs make the FOMO pretty real.
Also the pixel art on the digital effects and new interface are beautiful!!!
amazing box. but it must be incredibly complicated that the individual effects e.g. can be distributed as desired to the individual channels via ableton. so you have the entire heat for one channel. Great. now i understand why eventide 9000 is so expensive. I prefer to stick with my individual stomp boxes and hope that the Heat mk1 and 2 will be nice and cheap on eBay.
nut$ right, even for the refresh, the analog gate, the extra LFO and the beefed up board - then add in the development time etc - I thought this would be more Syntakt territory, perhaps Heat prices will change, but as a value proposition (based on what you get sonically) it’s a step up and then some compared to the Heat
