Interviews - mega thread

When you search for “interview” there are many interviews with producers, engineers etc. on this site. But, I think it would be nice if we had a goto place for interviews for archival purposes.

This way people can link the interviews here and have discussions in one place. Some of the interviews I read give hints on the equipment a producer use, or a technique that I am not aware of etc. So there is some educational benefit as well.

This is massive! Thanks. Good to see Hania Rani there. I will start from there. Huge fan!

Here’s Jeff Mills and with a very relatable frustration:

"…, these older machines were simpler. They weren’t perfect machines; they had some limitation but it was that limitation that required you to be creative and come up with an idea of how to make it sound different than the next guy. When I think of some of the new equipment available today, it’s a little overwhelming all the things you can do… it’s endless! "

Always happy to share this conversation between an artist and an instrument designer, Richard D. James (Aphex Twin) Speaks To Tatsuya Takahashi (former Korg Chief Engineer) “about their collaboration on the Monologue, microtuning, geometry and dreams.”

Everyone knows Faithless but not everyone knows Rollo! Legend!

Here is a behind the scenes right before “God is a DJ” times…

"…the producer got out a large wrap of cocaine and told us all to take a line…And we stayed up all night, making music and I just thought we were geniuses: .

But the next day when I woke up and I listened to what we’d done, it was just terrible. Two things happened from that. One, we got rid of the producer. And secondly, I’ve never taken cocaine again."

This was the interview where I learned the key to pulling off that Moroder-style bassline is not only to wear a tie over a white T-shirt, but also to rock a sizeable moustache:
