Little correction : OT is 16 bit and 24 bit.

Doesn’t seem an obvious test. Correct me if I’m wrong, the guy used individuals drum samples, but their relative levels / decay are different between records.

More obvious : 1 sample.

These kind of things always have flaws but still interesting. A/B were my preference when running through the “experiment”.

Fascinating, guessed correctly all four, listening on an iPad.

MPC60 sounds best for this type of music IMO. The OT sounded the most transparent.

I wish he woulda tested MPC60 vs Machinedrum. That’d be interesting to hear!

I always found the master digital eq on the output or indeed at least the input of the 4000 is essential.otherwise it can sound a little muffled.Still the OT came off pretty well.

Funnily enough i found the Z8 to be brighter/glassier.Altho its common to say they are the same.

That got me too. For anyone unfamiliar, the PO-33 is 8-Bit. Also a bit is defined as either 1 or 0, so it can’t be point something or another.

To be fair, the guy who did the video is a cool dude and has a bunch of great tutorial videos. That was an odd thing with “11. something” though :slight_smile:

Again, I really like that dude, but I did mention it in the YouTube comments…I think the main reason the MPC 60ii sounded so good by contrast is because it was obviously louder than everything else. Although it would’ve sounded good, regardless…still,loudest usually wins in those sorts of things. Luckily, I picked the OT as my favorite before I knew which was which. I happen to own one, so that felt good :slight_smile:

Yeh, the 4k has that recognizable HF rolloff that I still remember from my own unit. I actually like the HF rollof tbh

To be fair, the PO uses mulaw companding, therefore its not exactly 8bit PCM either. mulaw is cool, some older telephony systems use it and IIRC some gaining console, like playstation 1 or something, used it for bg sounds.
