Interconnectivity Help

I’m what you’d call a newb. I have a basic understanding of MIDI, but I’m lost once I have more than two devices to connect.

I’ve had an Analog RYTM for a while now, but I just picked up an Octatrack and Analog Four from someone in need this week. :))

Would someone like to offer guidance on the best way to connect these three devices?

I’m also looking to use the Octatrack to sequence a x0xb0x that I have here sitting on my desk.

Prease help!

Thanks in advance!

Audio

Rytm Out -> OT In A/B
A4 Out -> OT In C/D

Midi

Rytm Thru -> A4 In

Octatrack

Track 02 = Thru machine. INCD = C D

Octatrack -> Project -> Midi -> Sync

Thank you very much!! I’ll give this a try right now~

Which device should I MIDI out of to connect to an iConnect MIDI4?

Well… you only have one device that sends midi out :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

But anyways, assuming that you are using the Octatrack as master…

Midi Out = Output of device
Midi Thru = Mirror of Input of device

So you are creating a chain, where:

Octatrack Out → Rytm In
Octatrack Out → Rytm In → Rytm Thru → A4 In
Octatrack Out → Rytm In → Rytm Thru → A4 In → A4 Thru → iConnect In

Italics means midi data is just getting passed thru the device, so from the OT via the AR & A4 to the IConnect.

More then this/that… you should get a midi thru box.

This is gold. Thank you very much. Can you suggest a MIDI thru box?

Depends on your needs, space etc obviously. And your location…

I ended up ordering the MIDI Solutions Quadra Thru, only because it is MIDI powered (no need for another wall-wart). I read that other OT owners use this model without any issues.

Thanks again for all of your valuable input!

Cool. Good choice :+1:

You’re more then welcome.

Work through all this, and you’ll no longer be a MIDI newbie.

One tip- sketch out your gear and its ins and outs, connect it all together on paper, and you should start to get familiar with how it all goes together.

Good idea! I’ll do that.

Robert
