lol I’ve been in knots too.
It arrived today. Even my wife likes the aesthetics and is keen to play with it in the future. So it went well, but I need to lay off other purchases for a while, which is fair and responsible!
First impressions:
- This thing is gorgeous! Looks nicer in person than in pictures. And as I’m a designer, aesthetics play a big role in my gear acquisitions, so I’m happy I took the plunge!
- Obviously the sound is the most important factor, and boy this thing sounds good! It’s actually very precise and clinical but super easy to dial in some character.
- The filter is so creamy, like butter. Love it!
There’s lots more to explore, and I’m 1/3 done with the manual but it seems like it will be a key piece in my gear collection with so much to explore.
I’m totally smitten with this thing!
Here’s my first jam with it where it’s the main melody line. The rest is supplemented with VCV Rack.
Love how performative it is, love the sounds you can make so fast. USB Midi is another great thing too! So easy just to plug this and Ableton and you’re good to go! With a bit of supplementation from VCV or Plugins and you have the perfect hybrid setup.
Gonna be a mainstay in my toolset for sure!
Does anyone here has the Cascadia and an Oxi One?
I am trying to connect the Oxi via USB Midi without success. TRS Midi works… The Oxi also works with Ableton via USB, and Ableton works with the Cascadia via USB.
But not from Oxi to Cascadia… ):
I think you would have to set the Oxi to usb host mode for it to control cascadia with usb. I dont have an Oxi though, just cascadia (which has no usb host mode)
I tested through all four modes: Device, Host+Power, Host No Power, Device Self Powered…
None is working.
Try to disable clock out on the OXI One. It can create a conflict that can disable midi. This has been an issue with both OP-1 field and also 1010 nanoboxes so maybe also here.
You can read about it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/OP1users/s/0mzYMmyd78
Damn you all and this thread!
I decided to save money and get me a Cascadia. Gonna take some time to pull this of so maybe in 10 months time…
Thx for the link. Unfortunately not working…
That’s to bad… have you tried asking in the OXI forums? If you find out the reason please report back… I’m quite interested in the cascadia and I would like to use it with an OXI too
I can’t find an option to disable the Oxi clock… however, using the Cascadia without a clock won’t work for me anyway. Using TRS for now… Maybe even better since the Cascadia can’t load the Oxi battery…
Cascadia with drums from Tyso-Daiko, some reverb from Cloudburst:
(Ok, a hint of an MCO, too, but just as a saw and I could have used one of VCO A’s outs for that - I just wanted it routed past the reverb. The main stab is VCO A and sometimes VCO B through the ladder filter, oscillating between the two based on LFO Y.
No sequencing, all Cascadia’s LFOs (midi, XYZ, and Y triggering env B in burst mode for the multi-pulse).
Damn, I’m feelin left out over here
I really want a new toy to play with and can’t decide between getting a Cascadia, or a Hydrasynth Desktop (not remotely similar I know).
On the one hand, I hear nothing but awesome things about the Cascadia, and it looks and sounds amazing. On the other, the Hydrasynth Desktop is like 1/3 the price. Hmmmmm
Hydra
A quick look at Thomann prices:
Hydra + Taiga = 1600, versus Cascadia = 2700 = no brainer
Well, the Hydra is cheaper, so I say go with Hydra…plus the Cascadia.
= €3,117.27. Loan shark?
I don’t know much about numerology, but does that mean it’s shark week?
Shark week? Dunno, ask the UN.
