Input Gain with A4 MK1

Hi,
I have an A4 MK1, and avalon bassline with the mxr distortion +.
My issue is that the output volume of the mxr distortion + is not high enough.
What do you recommand?

  • lower all the tracks volume and have an additional gain after the A4
  • have an additional gain after the distortion pedal
  • Other ideas?

Thanks!
Alex

are you aware of the gain setting of the a4 inputs?

I’ve maxed out the input gain on the A4 but it is far from enough.
I don’t know how much dB of gain the A4 has.

ok, so maybe try to amplify the signal before. in the a4 manual you can find the max gain for the a4 input…

lowering the other tracks is an option too. i have to do that also when using rytm and a4.

if you have the a4 tracks (osc) really loud, they sound different, compared to moderate levels

Yes I know that lowering the output level of the osc gives breath to the filter and the overall mix.
Maybe my best solution is to make everything lower than add a clean boost at the end.

In my current setup I have:
Avalon -> MXR Disto+ -> A4 mk1 -> AR mk1 -> speaker.

Or I just buy a mixer…

i try to keep it simple and avoid a mixer. running a4 into ar too. sometimes circuit or ipad into a4 inputs… i have same kit structure on ar and a4, so i can gainstage/level everything per kit. a mixer would involve manual adjustments every time, too complicated for me, as i jam with the boxes. even adding a third device like circuit or ipad breaks the flow for me and means thinking/ adjusting too much…

I’ve ordered https://www.jimdunlop.com/mxr-micro-amp/ to boost the signal.
