Industrial packs

Hi guys@ could u recommend some industrial and metallic free sample packs for the Octa?
Thnks a lot!!

Now this is probably not the answer you were looking fork, but grab your phone and record slamming the utensils drawer in the kitchen a few times. Dropping a toolbox a few times works as well.

Sticking some paper into a fan, some screws or bolts in a metal bucket, break some stuff, it’s Industrial.

The octatrack will make them into something beautiful!

The Soma Lab contest samples (samples from Lyra-8, Pulsar-23 and others) might be of interest: CONTEST – SOMA LABORATORY

Problem with that is that the average phone has a pretty shitty microphone, which leads to low quality samples, which leads to artifacts and unwanted noise when mangling said samples. That’s honestly the most useless answer you can give if someone is looking for high quality industrial and metallic samples, as recording those in sufficiently high quality takes time, knowledge and gear not available for a lot of people.

Love and peace to you too.

Did not mean to come off as antagonistic, it’s just that following your advice will most likely lead to a lot of wasted time. Personally I just went out and bought a Zoom H4n to record samples when I found the quality of a smartphone mic way too low for good samples.

I don’t know if we have the same idea of industrial but imo there is no reason you couldn’t work with samples recorded on a phone. My suggestion is to skim Youtube for source material.

Better to work with high q. samples, you can add all the grit you want but mangling a noisy digital sample just leads to digital artifacts, which to me is lo-fi in all the wrong ways.

My idea of industrial is early 80s stuff as well as more recent artists like Linekraft or Alberich.

Have you browsed the “files” section of this forum? There are quite a few sample packs in there.

But maybe it was the answer he was looking fork :joy:.
Nice Freudian slip.

Didn’t find samples on their site…

I did but not found free packs…

Scroll down the site I linked. Under the section ”Rules” there’s a link to a pack of samples.

It really depends on the source material… anything loud and percussive will obviously not be recorded well with a smartphone’s internal mic (I have an iPhone XR). But for environmental field recordings in mono, it’s brilliant. I have made thousands of samples with iPhone mic audio, mess them up in FieldScaper and now have a massive library of industrial noise/soundscapes.

I bet modern iphones have better microphones, I did my recordings with an iphone se and they werent really usable for mangling, especially not slowing down. Could have worked without any mangling, sure and I have used some vocal samples recorded with an iphone a couple of times.

Comb filter on Kick for FX2. Adjust regular filter on kick FX1 before comb. Enjoy some chunky thumps.

Neighbor track for taste.

No need for a pack and it’s fun.

This isn’t technically industrial but all the “notes” come from a kick+comb filter:

I personally think an iPhone mic is really good for a more grimy sound. I’ve made excellent snares from just tapping a cassette tape in its case onto a desk, treat it with your favorite filter, etc… it lends a fun film to field recordings as well.

Matter of taste.
