Interesting to see what you guys have to say. I will be running this trough my Ghost in individual outputs for more Eq control and I have 8 com and gates inserted on my buses. I guess I will get a more clear mix of the Sound.
Iām curious about the outs labeled, e.g., āRS/CPā. Does that mean that theyāre both sent on the Ring, i.e., theyāre not actually available independently?
that is correct. RS/CP is on the same mono channel on my mixer. I think because of the shared voices among some tracks on Rytm. A small price to pay to get all that extensive eqing & aux efx.
hello. would anyone care to share how they are connecting the main out? iāve recently been trying to record it into a metric halo 2882 via a balanced xlr connection, but i canāt get sound from instruments whose panning is at center. Iāve checked on my headphones and the sound is nice and clear but it disappears as soon as i go into the sound card.
Wow didnāt know OT had balanced output, nice to know that !
I would think that maybe your cables are not right, as it seems you have phase cancellation.
Excuse me if you know this already but⦠Is the jack part of your cable stereo ?
EDIT : damn itās for AR⦠Still, just figured OT outs were balanced, neat !
Yes- xlr on one side and āstereoā on the other. I tried with a double mono on the AR left/right out to stereo jack into the soundcard and had the same problem
Very strange indeed! I am almost always connecting the AR to my Apollo twin combo input with two TRS cables, and there has never been a problem.
Perhaps try with TRS - TRS cables?
Which outputs you are using btw? Obviously you are not using an XLR to TRS connected to the headphone jack, right? Cuz this would lead to phase cancellations at the center obviously, and would be a wrong way to interconnect the audio, as stereo outputs like the headphone jack cannot be balanced by design.
so i just tried TRS from the headphone out to the soundcard and that led to the same problem- center means no amplitude and can only hear something when panning.
This will not work, you will get phase cancellation caused by the balanced connection at your audio interfaceās frontend.
Try going TRS - TRS with two cables, one connected to the left output and the other to the right output.
You know the diff between a balanced and an unbalanced audio interconnection, right? I can explain it if you donāt.
thank, tsutek. i think i know the difference. with a balanced connection the signal is carried over twice with one version phase inverted. Right?
My concern is having too few inputs on the audio interface to use two for the main out and then 3 or 4 for the individual outs.
What would you recommend if you were to connect the main output with a single cable?
exactly. Since audio cables work like ghetto antennaes, they pick up heaps of unwanted garbage. The longer a cable, the more garbage it will pick up. A balanced connection elegantly eliminates unwanted noise/garbage by sending the same signal down two paths, and inverting the phase, thereby eliminating the unwanted stuff from the signal (as both paths contain the unwanted stuff in the same phase) by a large degree. But if you connect two unbalanced signals to a balanced input, the connection will eliminate the in-phase sound (ie. center-panned sound), as you already experienced.
so how would I connect it?
mono. So taking either the L or the R with a TRS, and panning everything to either L or R that you want to send to that output. Iām afraid thatās the only way without using overbridge in addition to tracking analog.
You could use overbridge for recording the channels that you cannot fit into physical inputs, although this would require correcting for latencies.
Thanks a bunch, tsutek! Will be giving this a go in the next few days. cheers.
Was just messing with the indiouts again today while testing my new 12MTK. I think Iām going to start multing everything besides the kick to the indiouts, and then using the masterouts for the kicks only. This way I lose the fx for most tracks, but can use the master distortion and the compressor for massaging the kick only, giving lots more flexibility for shaping the kicks. some subtractive eqing ITB and summing with the 12MTK, oughta be fun!
You could try to route an aux on the 12MTK to the Rytm in order to use the effects. Thats how I am going to use my AK and future 22MTK and AR.
of course, but I think I will use the comp only for the kick for a while. I generally avoid compression, so just using it for effect on the kick sounds like a welcome new approach.
the signature has too few auxes for me to blow two of em just for some comp IMO. I need those two auxes for my H9 instead.
I feel like this somewhat confirmed here but just tryna make sure if I use individual outs do I lose the efx on the individual outs?
Do the efx only go out of the master/stereo outs?
Yes.
If run out of splitter cables, is it possible to use just a ts cable? We would of course get only one of the two tracks, the signal on the tip, but bettee than nothing.
Iām not entirely sure if this is good for the circuitry, though. It would ground the other output that would normally be transmitted on the ring of a trs cable, I guess. Is this something that could cause anything bad?
