Inconsistent Volume

i am having a very hard time (actually it is driving me completely nutz) with recording / thru volume settings.

input A/B have the analog four, C/D get the output from my modular stuff.

by no means i am able to sample the sound and have it playing back at the same volume that is send directly thru the OT mixer. the samples have a low amplitude in the editor but play back very loud. i have to set the track volume to -50 to get somehow the level of the fed thru signal.

but to my understanding it should be the same as what i am hearing when the track volume is at zero.

generally what i want it to work like, is that i can hear the inputs and sample them at the very same level. any hints, ideas, tips??

Internal gain stage recommendations

Just wondering what kind of settings others are using on Octatrack, from track volume, through level and then through “main”. I have a comprehensive set of Electron boxes and want to put them through my mixer ideally with the same gain settings. So, I’m trying to get Octatrack to match Rytm and A4.

Gain Staging in Octa

Hey guys, Still wrapping my head around the octa but i had a quick question: Is there anyway to visually monitor the level of your audio on each track. I know you can do this when sampling via the light under the record buttons, but i was wondering if there was any way to do visually represent the db of the audio signal already recorded to the track. Headroom, gain staging, stereo space and other headaches

Hi guys, I have an issue with my OT that is not so easy to describe as I’m not a professional sound engineer. I usually start producing with kick and bass, filter and add compression on each track to give it more thump. At that point it seems that the signal coming out of each track is already very “hot”, like there’s no headroom left. When I add other elements they don’t seem to mix well, I lose dynamics.
