They have something I’m interested in and it will be fairly cheaper than buying Stateside.
Anyone purchased from them in US and had any extra costs (besides shipping)?
The final price with be around $820 including shipping.

Ordered my Digitakt and a new interface from them (separate orders). No import duties on either.
Pretty quick shipping considering the distance.
Remember it is coming from Germany–the power plug you get will be the European standard(type C, round prongs), not US (type A/B - flat prongs).
There didn’t used to be any, but there have been some new duties added in the last couple years. I ordered something from them last year and got am email from them saying that duties could be up to 30% of the price. I believe this affects items made in China, even if sold from Germany. I believe it affects purchases over $800, but I am not sure and don’t know all of the details.
I just purchased both those items last week(the Digi order had a couple of other things, bringing the total to $856) and there was nothing other than the price and shipping charged.
Yeah, Digi was made in Sweden, so I don’t think there will be any duties on that one.
I googled “duty calculator” or something similar and this website came up, it may help estimating. There are other sites that have a duty calculator as well.
I just received my Genelec 8341A’s from Turnlab in Belgium today (to the US). Paid ~$5300 for the pair and I didn’t get any import charges.
I’ve ordered a few things from Thoman but it was all less than $1000 each time and never had to pay import fees.
Really not sure how it works or when you get charged. Maybe I’ve just been lucky?
I a lot of it is the tariffs on Chinese goods. It looks like Generic’s are made in Finland.
They are and I guess that makes sense then.
Don’t know about taxes, but I found the German postal services to be fast and cheap.
It’s cheaper to order vinyls from Germany than from my own country.
I found that Thomann email they sent me last year after I had placed an order:
Please note that orders shipped to the US are exempt from European sales tax. For orders over $800 USD, we presume taxes will apply at the arrival of the goods:
https://www.cbp.gov/trade/basic-import-export/internet-purchases#
Also, goods made in China are subject to a surcharge of up to 30%.
This is all great news! I wonder if shipping counts towards that $800 limit.
The thing I’m getting is around $775 but shipping pushes it to $815
I think I’ll take the risk
No it doesn’t it’s just the value of the item
UPS and FedEx shipments to the US from Europe will add additional customs charges and bill you at a later date. A $2000 item will cost about an additional $150 more (7.5%). You won’t be billed immediately. It will occur later.
The item I’m buying is less than $800 and not made in china so hopefully this won’t be the case. Only time will tell.
Even if I get hit at the rates you quoted it’s still a better deal than buying in the US…which is kinda crazy.
Be aware that many companies do warranty return through your retailer.
Also any state sales tax is owed, though not collected by the overseas retailer.
It’s an Elektron product so warranty should be fine.
Interesting about the state tax. I’ll need to look into that.
Elektron’s warranty procedure :
Warranty service procedure for devices bought from a retailer:
Please contact your retailer directly if you need warranty service. You will then be guided on how to proceed with your case. Elektron machines come with a three-year limited warranty, starting from the date of the original purchase. If you require warranty service, you need to be able to prove the date of the original purchase with an invoice or a receipt.
This is the same procedure for many companies, and for approaching all medium to large sized companies.
Early August, I bought my Genelecs from them too (8020s). I alway though you had to just be under an $800 threshold
The duty calculator shows the taxation is cheaper that NY sales tax, so it’s not too bad.
Still surprised that you didn’t have to pay.
I might need to test the waters with a Pulsar-23.
ive ordered 3 big ticket items from them an iridium, fusion and syntrx but only had to pay duties on 2 out of the 3. Was ~$100.
