IK Multimedia iLoud Sub

What’s going on here?? Why is the post correction rolling off the LF starting at 60hz? The sub spec is 25hz at -6db.

Regarding the above post, I think it’s because I selected specific L&R speakers for the voicing option (MTM mk1s in my case). Once I selected a generic option for voicing the sub curve was much flatter. I think the ARX X software hasn’t yet caught up with the iLoud sub product release.

I only have the micro monitor pros, but in their app (same one?) selecting a speakers model means making them emulate their sound.

So perhaps by choosing MTMs you made your setup emulate their frequency range?

It’s a bit unintuitive. For a 2.1 setup the voicing should be selectable at the individual speaker level, not as it currently is at the system level. Hopefully the software will be updated to fix this.

That graph does look odd and I would have assumed that the software would already cater for the mk1 mtms?
Maybe a support ticket is in order?

picked up one of these - love it. Pricey but has transformed my iloud micros (I think) into effectively stereo field tweeters whilst the whole sound in now rounded out to a big, full presence but with lots of control to bring either your relaxing music to life or when you are testing your production pieces. Before this those iLoud micros were tbh, quite disappointing, compared to ‘PC monitors + sub’ that I have in a separate set up.

I probably might have achieved this transformation of the micros by buying some other cheaper sub, but as a long term investment in a bit of quality, particularly as small as it is, it’s a good purchase. I also like the ARC app that brings it all together, though it need some uplift in how to navigate.

Puts more expensive high end TV woofer, surround systems to shame in terms of heft. iLoud sub has a lot of chunk and I’m enjoying it as much listening to How Many More Times as I am putting synths through it for previously unknown subterranean frequencies that have revealed themselves.

Enjoying the sub paired with MTM mk1s. No more port chuffing! Agree the ARC X app needs some work.

That app is a bit worrying. I’ve had my genelecs for two decades, which is good value over time. Will the app for this sub still work in 2046?

Great question. The room alignment settings are stored in the sub so the app is only needed when you recalibrate. Worse case if app support ends is mothballing a fixed PC or VM build that runs the software.

That is one of the main reasons me wanting the iLoud sub. The port chuffing on my MTM mk1s, really winds me up.

Is that an issue on the MTMs as well? I thought that had to be an iLoud Micro thing… but yeah it’s annoying and a reason why im thinking about getting a sub eventually for my micros

Yep. Partially mitigated when you cross them higher and/or even totally fixed based on crossover point and volume. I read that the new port design on the MK2 should be even better on that aspect

Nope. I have the MK2s - still the same issue, even when using the 50hz high-pass. Most music is fine, though, unless I’m producing techno with those rumbling sub-basses.

Yeah. It’s definitely anything that is really rumbling with sub bass in it.
I’ve set mine to roll off at 50hz. Which helps, but if the sub takes all the work off the mtms under 80hz. I think that would be problem solved.

IME mtm Mk1 crossed at 80hz plus a sub was almost perfect. Still lacks some headroom when you push them, but port chuffing was gone in 99% of the circumstances.

I also did some EQ via REW and Thomann el cheapo DSP. For the money spent wasn’t bad at all.

Looking forward to put together the studio again and maybe jump on the iLoud Sub to keep things more straightforward

I got mine in today and it works great. Totally evened out the weird bass response I had from the MTM mk1

I feel like I’ve not seen enough everyday user reports on the internet… Maybe it’s expensive, so too few people have bought it for there to be many people discussing? I’m quite keen on meatier speakers in my basement, but not on taking a chance on needing to send something back if it’s not great.

Is there anywhere in London that might have on display?

Usually, and oddly, that’s a good thing in my experience. When it’s all over the internet, people are not quite satisfied. I rarely run into a 400+ post thread about gear with nothing but praise, unfortunately. And in case of early stage bugs or issues after launch of a new products, reports go quit quickly as soon as resolved.

So far I love it and feel the hype is warranted. I’m a big fan of IK product(s) despite the company being a pain in the ass to support. Very few support options if you buy direct from IK web shop. So, I waited until Guitar Center stocked the sub so I have a return/exchange window of 40 days in addition to 3 year gear protection in case I should blow, kick or damage the sub.

Also got GC to match IK’s $100 off coupon. I paid $500 - Capitol One’s 20% cashback offer. I would have been fine paying the $600 for it but $400 obviously feels a lot better lol.

So yeah, I would recommend this Sub to anyone with smaller monitors (I’m rocking MTM I’s) looking to monitor low end, correct an untreated space or just love great all around sound.

:rotating_light: I recommend isolation spikes and copping a 6.5” grill to attach to this sub to protect the cone. Especially if you’ll be placing the sub under the middle of your desk as rec’d. If not, you’ll eventually kick and dent the cone and wish you had followed the advice.

Anyone using HS80M with this sub???
