‘Then we go for some lighter vibes in ://about blank (HARD TECHNO MUSIC)’

:grinning:

Can someone with German skills tell me what those girls at 5:33 said in German to say Value Added Tax Evasion?

Translation is fine, they said: “Umsatzsteuerhinterziehung, hartes Thema, Leute”

Personally, I’ve always detested the whole Berghain thing. I grew up when raving was about inclusivity and PLUR, face checks at the door are antithetical to me and against everything the original rave ethos stood for. I mean, if you want to be all elitist about it, why not go all the way and lean into the “Make Techno Black again” movement? No caucasians allowed… Or what about that Techno museum in Germany which competely glosses over the fact that Techno originates from Detroit, USA?

Would they let me in? No idea, never tried to get in. I’d much rather go to Tresor or heck pretty much anywhere but Berghain. Besides, dont people just go there to get laid?

Yeah, Berghain’s shite. Often when friends were visiting in Berlin, I had to take them there, and I always made sure we were on the list, because every fucking time the dude at the door did not like somebody’s face. The first couple of parties there were different, but that shit started pretty early, still in 2007 IIRC.

Imagine how people feel after literally queuing for an hour in December just to be turned away after watching people in front of them get in. Totally unacceptable.

Eventually I stopped going there completely, except for concerts where I had tickets. There’s enough great stuff going on in Berlin, and I never felt at home with the Berghain crowd anyway.

Yeah, well, these days kids just do drugs and dance

Yeah ha ha… and these days you would literally have to go underground to actually have an underground rave

I totaly agree and know what you mean. But the sad thing on the other side is: its not about the face, its about that the club simply has to do it, to somehow be able to avoid that people are coming in without any ethos or real interest in the music or scene and just want their easy-jetset-trip crownded by an instagram-post that they were in the club. You know a little bit what i mean?
The whole situation is difficult, and really worth a debate.
I mean, they dont do the door-thing cause they want it to do for the sake of it, i dont remember that for example their earlier club Ostgut did it. They do it cause they have to do it. To garantue that its still a club how they want it to be.

I stopped raving when people were there for the wrong reasons. Vultures suck.

It’s harder in older age to stay longer on raves without mdma.
I still like going on a good dj set from time to time, find good spot next to a dj and enjoy music watching him/her do their thing with a beer in my hand

I prefer outdoor, some weeks ago there was vuuv, and there were quiete a bunch of old school people there. I felt at home. Ok, i got to hear (from a younger girl) for your age you did a fine dance, but thats why were here. Not sure if i feel age discriminated.)

I find that elitism door thing also counterproductive.

Yes. This happened. I would never ever try again. Maybe that’s the point. :woman_shrugging:

we are back to the days which caused the emergence of underground culture. to avoid: elitism, mainstream values and norms…every movement starts a geninue good intentions to offset the wrongs or water-downed status quo…

agree…i came thru the late80s and 90s rave culture. it offered relief from protocol, decadency, and pseudo-rebellion of the clubs and others walk of life…

I worked outside of my 9-5 a bit in the club & festival’s “back office” business, and highly recommend Bassiani in Tbilisi if you enjoy the old days at Berghain. Top-notch immersive sound system too.
In the Berghain realm, De School in Amsterdam was a lovely place or me too, but sadly got closed down. The underground scene in the Netherlands is still decent.
The bouncer at Berghain was known to be quite good at their job. To let in & match the right outside people so that the inside people can feel safe, and vice versa.
But maybe i’m not one to judge, the only times I was in Berghain are 2013 & 2015 (I lived there in between this period). There are still good club nights now, but Berlin is not a place it used to be. People changed…

I have no problem embracing my older years… it´s like a rite of passage I have now evolved into a home studio dweller that can afford to buy endless gear… Then watch episodes of bad gear…
I also have some sweet stories about the good ol days… I´m just glad I got to rave and DJ in the 90s and early 2000s without phones flooding the dance floor.
Still there’s plenty of cool clubs and experiences to be had for the new generation so have fun kids! Soon you’ll be me
