Ideas for using the MD with DT

Hi elektronerds! This is my first post! Very happy to see there is a healthy vibrant community goin strong

So, I have found myself with both a DT and an MD UW Mkii. So far the MD inspires me in a way that the DT hasn’t just yet, but maybe that’s just because Ive spent a lot more time with it. I realize the DT is capable of a lot of things the MD isn’t and vice-versa, so i imagine they could actually do a lot of cool things working with each other. I was wondering if yall had any ideas or wisdom for how to approach bringing their respective uses together to make a 1+1=3 situation?

I haven’t found a whole lot on the subject, any thoughts would be appreciated  it really helps me creatively to learn what IS possible with things, Gets the inspiration flowin. I have already learned a lot from perusing these boards.
Thanks!

oh, sorry, I should say beyond the obvious like, using the modern sequencing capabilities of the DT and the respective niche of eithers samplers for different thing

Hi, what type of music are you using the MD for currently? How do you use it? Do you mostly program sequences and let them play or do you do a lot of live tweaking of parameters?

What’s missiing in your workflow? Melodic content? An end of the chain compressor? One shot samples?

It’s hard to give any specific guidance without knowing what would help you use these together in context.

  • Use the fact that the DT is class compliant, and hook it up to an iPad if you have one, and sample videos, radio, audio plugins, etc.
  • Sample loops from MD, so that you have loops to play between changing patterns on MD at live sets.
  • set up single cycle waveforms in DT on certain patterns and sequence from MD treating the DT as sort of Polysynth
  • Use MD’s external outs to sent to DT input to use the latter’s Reverb and Compressor

Another thing try is to use the MD’s ROM machines to record and magle the DT in real time. For that you do need MD UW though.

Other than that, you should keep trying to discover things on your own and see if you can come up with your own workflow.

yeah, i realized after I posted this that I haven’t spent nearly enough time with the DT, and that most of these questions would probably answer themselves with a lot more exploration. I got so enamoured with the MD that i didnt finish getting to know the DT. I’m going to dive into it and learn as much as I can and I’m sure their respective strong suits will make themselves clear over time, i’m getting way too ahead of myself here.
Thank you for your replies tho! I will think about all this

*DN? or *Monosynth?

I did intend to use the word Polysynth, thinking that if I used several MIDI tracks on the MD they could each control a single cycle voice on the DT. Perhaps a better choice of wording would be “set-of-parallel-mono-synths”
I haven’t tested this though

Oh yes, almost forgot it’s 16 Tracks and not 6 like on the MnM :stuck_out_tongue:

This thread got plenty of tricks to explore the DT further:

or if its the DT1 you’re talking about:

My advice would be to play only with DT for a while, learn it from A to Z.
Then you’ll know how to pair the two units.
From mixing between them to actually play both of them for what they do best.
