Hello
I’m new here so apologizing in advance if my query doesnt belong on here.
I have an OT MK2 that i have been using mainly as a sampler then record it through my interface onto ableton. I got a couple of pedals and a synth that i’d want to plug into the OT.
I would love to get some help with it if possible. So ideally i’d like to plug (via audio) the two pedals (Space and Timefactor by Eventide) and a TB-3 synth (Via audio as well) into the OT and use the OUT of the OT and plug it onto my interface (Focusrite 2I2) and record everything on the DAW.
If anyone can help me i would be really grateful!
Thanks a lot
Use the OT’s Cue Out for this.
So:
-
instruments/voice/synth/etc (whatever you sample) into the OT’s inputs.
-
Main outs of the OT into your mixer or audio interface
-
Cue Outs of the OT into your TimeFactor (ideally in stereo), TimeFactor outs into your Space ins, Space outs into your mixer or audio interface.
Now you can use the Cue button to send a track of the OT to your effects (press CUE + Track).
You can now also send your inputs to these effects. You achieve this by using a track as THRU machine (with the inputs you’d like to go through), then send that track to Cue.
Hope this helps.
EDIT:
I’m assuming here that you’d like to be able to affect sampled material on the OT with your effects and that you want to have the flexibility to choose which tracks to send to the effects.
If you just want your TB-3 to be affected by your effects, you could alternatively run your TB-3 into your delay, your delay into your reverb, and finally your reverb into Inputs AB (or CD) of your Octatrack. Now you can add delay and reverb to your TB-3 and sample the whole thing in your OT. For maximum flexibility though, I highly recommend the approach I laid out above.
EDIT2:
Just seeing that your Focusrite 2i2 doesn’t have enough audio inputs for the first approach laid out above. My general suggestion here would be to get a different interface with at least four inputs, assuming you’ll grow your setup with time.
ALTERNATIVELY, if you don’t want to do that just yet, you can still resolve this as follows:
-
TB-3 into OT’s Input AB (I assume it’s stereo. If not you could just go TB-3 into Input A)
-
OT’s Cue Outs into TimeFactor, TimeFactor into Space
-
Space outputs into OT’s Input CD!
-
OT’s Main Outs into your Focusrite 2i2
Then on your OT Mk2, you either press the “Mix” button and bring the “Dir” (direct signal) of Inputs CD up all the way OR you add inputs CD to your THRU machine. Either of these is necessary for you to hear the signal coming from your effects into the OT in real-time. (Check out the manual for more information on the Mix page and/or THRU machines).
