iConnectivity Midi4+ Review

Hi there,

i’d like to share with you my impressions on the iConnectivity Midi4+.
I had one for test over the weekend and i won’t bring it back…
That says it all (well…almost)

I have to say that the device ist really well build, everything feels and looks durable.
the USB sockets are a tight fit, so you don’t have to be afriad of loose USBplugs.

I’ve tested different setups:

Synthesizer (as Midi-Keyboard) into Midi4+ into Analog Four
Analog Four received via Midi In (DIN) the Midiclock from the OT, and over USB it received the Midi Notes from the Synth Keyboard, never had such a fast way to play even more complex figures spreaded over 2+ octaves

Midicontroller (Akai LPD8) into Midi4+ into Octatrack
oh.what a nice setup, i tried if i can toggle the track mutes on the OT with an external controller, i think i won’t use this setup a lot, but it was fun to play around, but i had to set the LPD8 to the right CC numbers in it’s editor

Octatrack into Midi4+ into Ipad
setup was done real quick and easy, after setting this up, i connected the LPD8 to the Midi4+ and assigned several faders in the Alchemy iOS App…
Audio goes out via headphone jack into OT for further deconstructions

Computer into Midi4+ into Computer
this was a little bit a pain in the ass to do the setup, but it worked ok, had some issues with latency, but i didn’t had more time to test and try more

After all i have to say i am impressed how easy it was to set up all kinds of needs, and with the upcoming Audio4+ (which can be cascaded into the Midi4+!!!) you’ll have a really good team for a flexible setup in terms of audio or midi

I can try to work out some other setups if somebody wants to know more, just let me know:-)

Hi Jay,

Another iCM4 user here…

had posted a bit on GS here http://www.gearslutz.com/board/electronic-music-instruments-electronic-music-production/927870-iconnectmidi_4-interesting-box.html

The big deal for me is the mapping… and finally figuring out how to disable the audio passthru.

a very neat solution iPad or not. having a sequencer (in my case it was the mc808) running, playing both internal sounds and external synths (a virus) then using a usb midi controller to play arps on the iPad which was also playing a Virus part…

yup pretty handy box
