So I’m a writer by profession and despite my Swedish origin, I wrote a book in English and I’ve now been published in the US.
My book - the Greatest Game of All - can now be purchased or pre-ordered everywhere, depending on where in the world you live.
It’s a wild ride on love, friendship and video game culture, on a man rising from the ashes to redeem himself and make the greatest game ever made together with his best friend - who’s dead unfortunately - and what it means to be passionate, to say you’re sorry even if it’s too late - and our shared love for video game culture.
If you wanna read something that’s a bit like Jerry Maguire but in the world of video games development, and has Wizball and the Last Ninja in it, but also Metroid and the Last of us, and of course Half-Life 3, this one’s for you it’s feel-good in the 8-bit format.
Sounds like a good read, will there be a Kindle or ebook version at release? I tend to read on my Kindle before bed (which has the subtle backlight so I don’t disturb my wife’s sleep! )
Hey, thanks doesn’t seem like there’s an e-book version planned right now (had to check myself ), but I’m sure it’ll happen in the near future. My impression is, e-book are just a click or two away once the script’s done and edited.
This sounds pretty cool - props for getting a book published, something that’s on my long list of hopes one day. Is there any way to buy it not on Amazon?
Thank you yeah, that one made it in there because why not. All the hours I poured into that game were just legendary.
@mitya33 thank you it’s available worldwide, so you should be able to get it from your local book store - though likely they’d have to order it - or any online retailer that’s not Amazon.
@Azzarole hey, yep it’s fiction. Much of it is based on things that happened to me or someone close to me which I trust. I’ve been in the video game industry since the late 90’s, so I’ve seen some s**t. I figured it was time to tell a story that somehow relates that experience.
Thank you yes, being a Supernote guy myself (with the Kindle app installed), I tend to agree. Funny I never thought to ask the publisher this, I’ll just hit them with the question and see what comes out.
Thank you no connection, other than the fact we’re both Swedish. The illustrator is Karen Vermeulen and she has no connection to Sweden, where much of the book takes place. Having said that, she nailed the cover - this is exactly what the main characters’ hometown would look like if it was real. It’s a very typical Swedish fishing village by the west coast.
Part of the book is about growing up in such a context - just imagine being a kid, learning about video games the 80’s, and you’re miles away from any store carrying any kind of electronics, and when you’re not being bullied, the only adults you can talk to are fishermen.
And yet, somehow, there’s a way forward through this also
