I need some kind of midi router, and a bit of help. DIY friendly solution would be nice

I’m re-arranging a new setup that has me mostly away from the computer.

I’m downsizing my synths to only have one keyboard in my small room. I don’t know exactly what I’m looking for but I want to set up:

  • Prophet X as primary keyboard.
  • Prophet 6 Desktop version
  • Digitakt 2
  • Nord Drum 3P

I’m looking to have a simple and flexible routing setup for any of these units.

Prophet X can do “Keys/Wheels Off” local mode, which helps. I need this keyboard to be able to play itself, the Prophet 6, and the Digitakt

AND use the pitch / mod wheel. DT2 doesn’t pass this data through so I can’t use it as my midi hub in this way.

I’d like a pretty simple interface though, so I can select with a single button which midi device I’m controlling. I expect the PX will just control itself via a loop so I can leave the local mode set this way.

Additionally, when I do decide to play a channel on the DT with this keyboard, I want the ability to play the prophet 6 or x in with this keyboard THROUGH the DT. I’d lose pitch and mod wheel in this case, but I’d be able to record trigs live with the keyboard.

So needed to control either synth with the DT, that’s being controlled by PX keys and make both those linkages simultaneously (when I switch to DT channel, somehow I need the Dt output to now go to both synths. Then I select onboard DT. ) Can “THRU” fulfill this need?

Anything that can account for all of these situations with a simple UI away from the computer?

Any good platforms for DIY this stuff? I can figure out a bit of code if needed, I just need a good jump start. I have a daisy seed sitting around, a handful of loose midi jacks/sockets and too many enclosures for my own good.

If an off the shelf solution exists though, I might just go with that if it can be operated simply on the fly during a jam.

E: if a small midi keyboard exists that can do this all, I’m open to it. I was looking at the Korg Micro Kontrol which would give me some fun sliders to mess with DT2 as well.

E2: I forgot to add. I’ll want to sequence Nord Drum 3P as well. A nice to have would be using 3P as a controller for all of the aforementioned as well.

Would this do the trick? People seem to love them.

There’s also a simplified version from Conductive Labs.

Yeah that’s one I was looking at.

I think the complicated fork in the road I’m trying to conceptualize is:

PX key into PX or P6.

And DT into PX or P6 at the same time.

Only 1 Midi IN jack on each. I wish I could just pass through DT as hub, but no pitch and mod wheel data goes through. I’m not willing to compromise there.

That might be a winner. I’ll dig through the manual but I’m unsure of a few scenarios even from a cable / possibility standpoint, MRCC features aside.

PX Keyboard as input sent to anything else (and itself) seems fairly straightforward.

confused about

PX into DT controlling PX.

Using the Prophet X keyboard to play the DT to play the PX.

I have one of these and it works phenomenally. Simple to use, literally one button press required to route MIDI signals, no computer required, and very compact–about the size of a guitar pedal.

Emailing MRCC about the possibility of setting up an internal midi loop routing.

I think I have it figured out so I just have to await word on that possibility as I could not find a manual.

E: I figured it out. Should be no problem. Pretty sure the device has no issue running two different inputs to two respective outputs.

PX Key (pretend its a standalone midi controller) into DT2 midi In

simultaneously

DT Midi Out into PX Sound Engine Midi In

Blokas Midihub.
