I know, the insanity...The One Box Production Shop and Playing with other(gear)

Well, I plunked the money down for an MPC1000 modded, with JJOS2xl 128XL, and then a day later went with the choice I had been debating for nearly a month, the Octatrack.

I must say while still trying to figure out MANY a thing, including why when changing patterns (in the Yard Sale Elektron pack) the sounds changed (Mightve been on Patterns 5-8) but on my session they dont (albeit I put the changed part 2 sound on T1, on Pattern 1, not sure if its a system rule that Part 1 is for Patterns 1-4 but I digress).

Anywho besides that and many issues I’ve faced, after 3 days, I am kinda feeling like now that I got that MPC in, it’s going to be a trophy piece or get sold. I just feel so much creativity and different work flow with this device and I havent felt this since making beats in middle/HS in the laye 90s/00’s on an MPC and ASR-10.

ok rant over.

and this thing is excellent for real trippy lo-fi hiphop. Im in love.

thanks my fellow Octanauts!

hey you gotta go with what works. Life is to short. I went in the other direction - long-time MPC user -> tried to work w. Octatrack but complete fail in that department.

& yeah think the filters/fx on the OT sound really nice.

combinations of two or three items is often an enjoyable task.

like, as a potential daydream, The Digitakt and Mpc Live …

or in my scenario, Machinedrum Userwave, Korg Prophecy, and a 5 string esp/ltd bass with fx.

Mpc 1000 and Octatrack sounds plenty awesome as a combo.

for the harmonic element could even source synths on the phone, use the converter leads to go to the input/s of the 1000 and OT.

start messing with the compressor on the master channel and you can really achieve that lofi flying lotus pumping effect. Just keep all the track really low volume and crank the mess out of the compressor… it raises the noise floor really high for that hiss effect and the kick will pump the compressor and add that ducking sounds. Sprinkle a little bit rate and sample rate reduction on the tracks and its lofi heaven.
