I know it's possible

I just can’t find it in the manual to have a trigger just play once - or - twice

You can have the trig fire once in two ways off the top of my head:

  • Make it a one shot trig, which is yellow when armed, and flashing yellow/red when triggered. You’ll need to arm the track by pressing stop twice, or pressing Yes with the track open to rearm it. Create a one shot by holding Func when creating a trigger, or hold Func then click the trig to change it to a one shot.
  • Use trig condition of 1st. Hold down a trig, press the right arrow and use the data/lvl encoder to set it to 1st. This will play once on the first play through of the track, and never again until the pattern is started from the begining.

thanks a bunch you second suggestion is exactly what I want

You can also play manually a track or a sample at will by setting its track as a free track in the FUNC+Pattern menu.

Then to play Track 1 for instance, in non recording mode just press Trig 1 to play the track or Trig 9 to play the sample.

I feel like “I know it’s possible” is the absolute archetypal octatrack forum post title.
