ferrari testarossa vibes.
If they were the same price (£479) as the regular black version then yeah, I love orange… but for £715 it’s a no from me.
It’s limited edition, just like the Silver Edition.
I knew something was up 12 hours ago, last night, when their News section on their website went down.
Learned a new word “strobogrammatic”, like 1961.
Wow. Totally awesome!
“Why 888 units, you ask? Let me quote a section of the press release to enlighten you:”
[…] not only is 888 a strobogrammatic number, meaning that the numerals used are rotationally symmetric so appear the same when read upside down, the number itself represents triple fortune in numerology! Needless to say, ‘Hydrasynth Explorer 888 Units’ will surely appeal to both numerology enthusiasts and synth collectors alike”
I have 888 in my phone number…
Is that a sign?
Btw I sold my HS Explorer, I planned to buy a Desktop version later (knobs confort and audio input). I’d miss the keys, but I have midi keyboards, and I should receive a Linnstrument to control it…
this is such a cool orange!
the only orange mucho more cool is that buttons on monomachine and machinedrum.
I’ve wanted to add a Deluxe to my 49 keys.
Maybe if they did a Deluxe in ORANGE.
what an ugly colour for a synth, reminds me of the Waldorf XT
I am not a fan of red too. The only reason I didn’t get an MPC 37 key was because it’s red.
Red and orange are my favorite colors.
I don’t like blue.
ORANGE
love it
Beautiful synth. Really miss the Waldorf XTK, and always like unconvential colors for machines.
Old question, but a new option to investigate.
UDO has a new product just out, a ribbon they say can be plugged into any expression pedal input, and be used with that synth.
This would not work with the Explorer ( no expression pedal input ), and there would not be a Theremin mode, and it’s TBD how specifically it works with the HSD. You could use this with other synths ( the Super 6 and Super 8 ) as well, even as a second ribbon on the larger keyboard Hydrasynths.
It has magnets on the bottom so it will stick to a ferrous case.
Length 581 mm, 23 inches.
Scheduled to ship in December.
Oh this is interesting!
Edit: I originally bought the Explorer to try out the Hydra line but soon realized I wanted the ribbon, so I traded up for the keyboard and love it! Then I wanted another Hydra in my sequenced setup so bought another Explorer. Plus portability of it with the 404 Mk2 when I travel made it a no brainer.
I’m definitely interested in this accessory ribbon. I use the shit out of the ribbon on my HSK, more than I expected when I got it. As long as the udo has a decent feel to it (I’ve used a couple that really don’t) I’ll probably give it a shot.
I do use the HSK ribbon in theremin mode a lot, maybe a slight majority of the time even, and I realize that behavior wouldn’t translate to many other synths if any but I still think it would be cool to have more of that type of tactile interaction. Surely there are some effects pedals that could be really fun with this too.
I started saving for an HSK this spring, expecting it to take a year or two. Dream synth! I’ve been unloading some stuff I don’t need and made an appointment to sell a guitar two days ago - which worked out great, because I did a random search for “hydrasynth” on Craigslist on a whim, more out of curiosity than any expectation I’d get lucky, and found someone selling an HSK for $500. That guitar sale almost covered the whole thing!
Connected with the guy and made a plan to pick it up yesterday, fully expecting at that price to get scammed at best but probably murdered. Dropped the kids off at school, drove three hours and two states away, didn’t get scammed OR murdered, made it back in time to pick up the kids… And now I have a hydrasynth keys. Which is just like new.
Still kind of reeling! My music setup is in a very small closet and somehow the HSK juuust fits, snug against the wall on either side. I’ve got everything connected and I am SO STOKED. I’ve read all 3800 posts in this thread over the last three days - the best part is 3200 comments in when Jeanne shows up and starts throwing down, runner up is Jukka the wizard.
Now I guess all I’ve got to do is learn how to use this thing? I don’t even know where to start haha
Congratulations!!! It’s a phenomenal piece of kit!
Congrats as well, it’s a great sounding synth with so many possibilities! The “sun god ra” patches are the best by far IMHO! Love them! Enjoy
I went through one weekend and scored all of my Hydrasynth presets from 1-5 to figure out what to keep, including the 5 banks of system presets, all the extra ones available on ASM’s website, and some others. A couple of standouts for me —
If you happen to like Boards of Canada or Tycho type stuff, this is by far my favorite preset pack.
Also check out the free 384 presets mentioned here. A lot of them get at more classic or warm analogue sounds that avoid some of the Hydraynth’s cold tendencies.
Sounds like fun ! $500 for the HSK is a great deal !
Learn the half dozen or so ways to do randomization. This will let you experiment with all the parts of the synth without having to get into the nitty gritty, and will keep you amused for days. You’ll end up with lots of interesting original patches this way too – so learn how to save a patch.
Later on you’ll be ready to tackle the mod-matrix.
