Hydrasynth from ASM

A decade of using hydrasynth and hopefully you’ll transcend beyond the need for screens.

Does anyone have the Desktop version with the Decksaver?

I just bought the Decksaver yesterday and it has a super snug / tight fit - to the extent that it’s not easy to take it off and I’m worried it can scratch the silver side panels.
I have ~10 decksavers for all my other gear but it’s the only one like that.

What’s your experience?

Thank you guys! Not good though…
Do you side panels look OK after using it for longer period?

Hey @baton to soon to tell for me : only got the synth and the decksaver a month ago and didn’t really used it that much
I do feel like the side are of good quality

New Hydrasynth Desktop owner here with a question: When you press the Filter 1 or Filter 2 buttons in the Filter Controls section (not the module section), does the screen show the filter controls? Mine doesn’t seem to do this. If I’m on some other module, e.g., LFO 1, and then I press the Filter 1 or Filter 2 button in the Filter Controls section, the screen doesn’t change. If I press the Filter 1 or Filter 2 buttons in the “Module Select” section, the screen shows the filter controls.

Is my Hydrasynth a bad Hydrasynth?

This is ordinary operation.

The two buttons in the Filter Controls section select which filter those knobs are operating.

The two Filter buttons in the Module Select section pick what is displayed on the Master Control section for further modification. These two buttons also can be used as a short cut when selecting the destination when editing the Mod Matrix.

Extra Note : The third knob in the Filter Controls section is for drive for Filter 1, but it is filter type morph instead for Filter 2.

Thank you, I am relieved.

I’ve had my Desktop version with its decksaver for, what, three years now? Sides look perfect, no tear. The fit is tight, though, but I don’t really mind it.

So no midi thru capacity on Explorer?

More Free Patches

They’ve put out 128 more, these all generated by selectively using the Hydrasynth randomization function on pre-existing patches.

People had problems downloading the last bunch ( some sort of security warning, that didn’t affect me ), and i can’t check these out myself for 24 hours, so pay attention.

Just an update - I eventually ordered a second decksaver and to my surprise this one fits very well. Yes, it’s bit tight but I actually prefer the snug fit for decksavers. But for sure this time I’m not worried about damaging the synth at all (the previous you really barely could put on…)

Overall I’m pretty disappointed with decksavers - have 10+ of them but only because there’s no good alternative. But I don’t think they have consistent design and quality control:

  • from device to device sometimes the fit is nicely tight, and sometimes very loose (e.g. Launchpad Pro MK3). And sometimes too tight (e.g. Push 2)…
  • sometimes they sit pretty deeply (e.g. PEAK or Hydra) and sometimes they’re shallow and it’s very easy for them to slide of (e.g. Digi’s)
  • sometimes they’re really bent and don’t fit - my RYTM decksaver was like that, and replacement was OK
  • Subsequent 37 decksaver was scrathing the wooden panels, and only after my loong exchange with them they decided to release an updated version with foam cushions on the sides…
  • a lot of them come pretty scratched ‘out of the box’ (not a big deal though as they’re going to scratch anyway - but still)

I’d really expect much more, especially given the price

I have had the Explorer for less than a day but I am stunned at how good this synth is! I have not felt this excited about using a synth since my first Virus Polar. The build quality on the Explorer is so good for something its size, and the module UI is brilliant! It also makes deconstructing presets to learn techniques feasible.

I am trying not to honeymoon but it is very very hard not to do so. AND I can take it with me almost anywhere. Just amazing!

Can the Hydrasynth do “chord memory per key” = a different chord memorized on each key?
Or at least the amount, that the desktop can trigger at the same time with its pads?

You mean like the chord feature on the Korg Keystage ? Detail on that.

It cannot do that, per se.

But there is a “trick” that effectively gives a similar result with different chords for each key that you can set and customize.

I will leave it to the reader to finger that out. Not terribly hard but very useful. Just spurring our imaginations.

I own the 49 key.

ADDED : I don’t think this works on the desktop, which doesn’t have features the other three do. The desktop may have other trick though, i just don’t know.

i guess i mixed it up with the Iridium desktop which has chord per pad.
