Hydrasynth from ASM

:grinning: Just exited musicians keeping the anticipation alive I think. I sure am exited about this one. Can’t say if Jukka is affiliated but then he would be working for a lot of companies!

Yeah and I can understand the excitement, the sound is definitely the real deal. I would like to try one in real life, I find the interface really unappealing but who knows, could be that when I get my hands on it I fall in love with the flow. I’m not sure why they didn’t go with a larger keybed though, needs more keys!

Nope not me – i just run on manic all the time.

People affiliated with ASM – like Glen or Daniel – are welcome here too.

Haha well I like your excitement Jukka, do you know when you’ll be getting yours?

I hopped on it day one from Sweetwater so they said 11/1.

This thing weighs 22 pounds as is. I think you’re right though, a new large poly-aftertouch keyboard would probably find a demand. ROLI have certainly done well with their versions of an expressive keyboard. Maybe there will be later, these two synths are the first products from ASM – i expect it’s first of many.

Medeli probably has some deep pockets and they obviously mean business launching a whole new company. Especially with a company built around the principle; The goal is to be doing stuff that others are not doing. (From interview with Glen D.)

They did that all right :v: brilliant beginning

Somebody called him out on it in Youtube and he admitted it - I think. Yes he’s a good player - he can work a Hammond organ too - footpedals and all.

I think there’s a 70% chance at least that he was twisting knobs to see if he could replicate PPG 2.3 sounds since he has the real thing. He also has a Korg Trident and a Roland Jupiter-8 - the Trident was a pleasure to play and hear, but the Jupiter-8 was not functional when I saw it. Anyway, I’ve no doubt he had synths like those in mind while messing around with Hydrasynth sound design.

Regarding the other question on this thread about him, I’ve no idea if he has business arrangements with any synth companies. He’s been doing the SynthMania channel practically since the birth of Youtube itself and is blessed with an incredible collection. He has other Knobcon 2019 videos in case anyone is interested.

Welcome to Elektronauts. This is how we roll with new synths. Each new one comes out, Jukka analyzes the hell out of it, down the component parts and everything, and the rest of us enjoy the ride

ā€œX is the new blackā€ was in use decades before the TV show.

Haha yeah I’m well aware of Jukka’s tendency to go over new gear. It just seemed like an especially large and frequent blast of posts introducing and analyzing the features every day, keeping it at the top of the forum pretty much at all times. New company, new synth, didn’t seem out of the realm of possibility that a well-known member had been enlisted to promote especially knowing his usual tendency. I like to know when I’m being advertised to. He says he’s not though, which I believe, and he did order one right away so it makes sense that he’s hyped on it.

I’m glad he’s here, as he tends to dig up stuff about a synth I’d have never thought of or easily overlooked - best example being Korg Prologue and Minilogue XD.

He was also very interested in the Argon8 and probably still is

HI, I’ll try to answer a few things…I don’t spend much time on forums as I have been pretty busy lately but I’ll try to hit on a few items I saw…

  1. nobody here is a paid shill…except me. I’m totally a paid shill.
  2. it will be available in most countries but we are a new brand trying to set up distribution all over the world. Daniel is doing that now on his own. He toured the US in August, just returned from Europe, is heading to Australia and Asia in the next week or two. 1st comes getting distributors, then they get the dealers. We will try to have a dealer listing up on our web page in October.
  3. Was Daniel recruited before he left Elektron? No. We have been friends for a few years. When he quit, I told him what we were doing and that he should meet Fanny and the upper management in Hong Kong. They met and liked each other…the rest is history.
  4. ā€œDigital is the new analogā€ā€¦were we picking sides in a stupid debate? No, more like making fun of a stupid debate. We think that, digital is great, analog is great, FPGA is great, DSP is great, discrete analog is great, hand wired tube is great, thru hole and SMT circuits are great…I think people should go make great music with the tools that inspire them, and don’t worry so much about what’s behind it. This is probably more our real message but we obviously aren’t beyond making a tagline that makes people look for a deeper meaning, that may not actually be there.
  5. The Threeler filter is awesome…I got one for my modular today ( and I messed something up in the build…time to troubleshoot it) we did have to dial back the low end gain in our model a bit because it can boost the low end something like +12db. It’s a monster. It’s the opposite of the ladder, that cuts the bass frequencies the more resonance you add.
  6. Jukka calculating the number of possibilities in wave tables is impressive and I learned a new number…quintillion.
  7. The product is really the sum of Chen, Dominic and me. The 3 of us have been bouncing ideas off each other for nearly 2 years now. Chen and his team of programmers and hardware engineers made it happen. Fanny is a great manager and allowed us to do what we do, and she was the one who initially had a dream to make synths a few years back. Daniel is handling all the sales, delivery logistics and distribution. I’ve been blessed to work with many good teams over the years; this one is very special for sure.
  8. yes, I hate teasers before a product launch and I really like to announce when you are close to making the product a reality. I don’t believe it serves the customer, the product or the market to go announcing stuff months or years early…and the countdown videos…ugh.
  9. the coordinated release was much less coordinated than it turned out. Very thankful and blessed by some great vloggers who made it happen.
  10. will there be more features? My feeling about early launches is echoed in announcing features that are not ready. We won’t announce any potential features or development early. Too often I have seen companies mention something or promise something that does not ever happen, for whatever reason. I’d rather not go down that path.

Those are the main things that I saw speed reading the comments over the last weeks.
Hope it clears some things up and is interesting to people.

Now to fix my Threeler and answer more emails.

Cheers,
Glen

No , it can’t do roland , but i think it can do smooth :hugs: i agree demoers are over emphasising wave capabilities.

First patch in the video that GovernorSilver linked, post 196, sounds pretty warm to me, and I’ve definitely heard other warm sounds come out of the Hydra as well… I personally think it’s going to prove to be an extremely versatile synth.

Cheers!

Yup, Synthmania did a great job of exploring the analog emulation side in his video - imo of course. While the analog emulation isn’t a dealmaker/dealbreaker for me, I liked what I heard - but that’s my personal taste.
