How would you envision a stand-alone Elektron video synthesis box?

Just watched a little short documentary on the guy who has two of the last remaining scanimate systems. I think it was on Vice. Love that stuff. Here it is:

the next one to come along in the early 80’s was the Computer Video Instrument from Fairlight

Yeah i heard of it though the Vice thing! Then there’s a slightly longer doc on Vimeo too.

One of them is modded for 1080p apparently, 90% of video synth manufacturers could take note.

I want to like the critter and guitari etc but i just plain dislike how its visuals look. I bet Elektron could do wonderful things in the visual domain.

the easiest high quality video software to use is GrandVJ, by far. Other softwares are way cool though.
Elektronika by Renae Aestesis is free and fabulous, cheap and cheerful.

if there was a new video hardware synthesizer made, i think the functionality of the video loop playback channels of the Kaptivator would be a highly sensible feature, as this would allow pre-made content to be mixed with analog video synthesis from the accompanying circuitry.

if anyone is interested, i have a bunch of free loops at 720p here:

the critter and guitari supposed hardware is actually just some software they made stuck inside an enclosure.

the software Videodelic by U&I software is a lot cooler for that sort of thing.

Video loop and mapping stuff is covered by so many systems already, actual video synthesis hardware that isn’t stuck in the 90s would be amazing. Software wise, stuff like Touchdesigner and Unity can be amazing and perform well.

go even one better and make it out of wood, powered by steam like this four step sequencer

yes, Wintergarten is 100 percent fabulous also.

Woodpunk for the total win.

Karl Klomp is the man for hardware video glitch circuit-bent devices…

Necro-ing this topic because I’ve been dreaming of an Elektron VJ box, something that includes digital LFOs, P-locks, integrates with other synth OR video devices nicely.

HDMI, SVGA, composite, component outs AND ins.

Other makers, products or glitch mods worthy of inspiration-

  • Tachyons+
  • BPMC glitch devices
  • Lumen - Video Synth
  • Critter & Guitari
  • OP-Z
  • LZX Industries
  • Radiator Laser Synthesizer

Anything new and interesting popping up in this vein? Maybe not Elektron specifically, but devices or software that seem compatible with their approach

I’m still WAY into VDMX, and sequencing it from the OT.
I love the customizable UI, and building it specific to how the OT’s UI

I did get myself a Midi Fighter Twister to control VDMX, but haven’t really dove in and mapped anything.
