How to use a sequencer on the Digitone with the Digitakt II connected?

I have a Digitone (DN), Digitakt II (DT2), and a Conductive Labs NDLR midi sequencer.

I’d like the NDLR to drive the 4 tracks of the DG.

I have the DT2 as a the master. How would I connect the NDLR into the DG or DT? The midi in is already being used by the DT2 for clock, trackport, prgm change, mutes, etc.

Make DN the master or use one MIDI Track of the DT to pass MIDI messages to DN.

Thanks for replying Tchu. How I configure the midi on the DT if I took the second option of using one MIDI track of the DT to pass MIDI messages to DN?

Would I go NDLR midi out B into the midi in of the DT? Then, midi out of the DT into the midi in of the DN?

MIDI Connections :

NDLR Out A > Digitakt MIDI In
Digitakt MIDI Out > Digitone MIDI In
Digitone MIDI Thru > NDLR MIDI In

You will need 4 MIDI tracks on the DT to do so. One MIDI Track/ NDLR Part.

In this example, we will use MIDI Channel 1 and NDLR’s Motif 1 as references.

On the NDLR, set the Motif 1 to Channel 1 MIDIA.

On the DT, set a MIDI Track to Channel 1 on the SRC page and in the MIDI Config > Channels menu.

On the DN, set the Track 1 to Channel 1 in the MIDI Config > Channels menu.

Enable Motif 1 on the NDLR, press Play on the DT.

Okay, I setup the DT, DN, and NDLR according to your instructions and that got me going. Thank you.

Here’s what is not working

  1. Motif 1 & 2 on the NDLR are triggering midi channel 1 on the DT. I don’t know why. I know this because when I press play on either motif 1 or 2, the midi channel 1 on the DT lights up, but not on midi channel 2 for motif 2.
  2. Pad on the NDLR doesn’t trigger. When I turn off the other NDLR channels I cannot get the Pad to trigger. I don’t know why.

What is working :grinning:

  1. Pressing play on the DT starts the clock and sequence going on the DN and the NDLR (provided I’ve pressed play on all the NDLR parts)
  2. When I press channel 1-4 on DT (midi chnls) the correct sounds are played through the DN.

Here’s my midi configuration

MIDI Configuration

NDLR Out A > Digitakt MIDI In
Digitakt MIDI Out > Digitone MIDI In
Digitone MIDI Thru > NDLR MIDI In B

NDLR Settings

ClkDivOut: 1:1
Clock in: midi B

DT Settings

MIDI 1-4 = midi channels 5-8

Program chg in ch: auto
Program chg out ch: auto
Multi map ch: off

Also, I don’t want to turn off my DT and DN because the midi configuration and settings aren’t saved. I’ve read several posts about how to save them but none are geared toward newbies to Elektron devices and assume prior knowledge. Also, the manual isn’t much help in this regard. I’m a bit slow with hardware so I’m probably not doing something simple right. :see_no_evil:

I feel like I’m close but not quite there yet.

Thanks for your help.

It’s fixed. It turns out the NDLR had some settings that were triggering it in a weird way. I reset it to back to factory settings and it’s working now.

I did change the NDLR midi out to midi a and quantization to 1/4. Thanks for your help Tchu. If you’re the same Tchu on YouTube, nice work man. Your music is really ethereal.

Oh nice that you’ve found the issue! I wasn’t in front of my NDLR/DT to do further tests.

I just saw your comments on YT. Yes, I’m the same Tchu. I didn’t expect that. I thought my videos were burried in the multiverse.

Thank you so much for your kind words, it means a lot. I love those Tracks.

Perceptions was made entirely on the NDLR (IIRC, it was my first Track made on it). I’m glad that the person who made those comments on YT appears to be an Elektronauts that I’ve helped along the way.:pray:

No problem. I appreciate the help. I’ve had so many good experiences with synth people. It always puts a smile on my face when I find someone making music with the tools I use, elektron, NDLR, etc, etc.
