How to insert flash card so as not to cause damage?

hey hey, brand new OT mk2 here. I’ve never had a new one so never had to insert the flash card before.

I really don’t want to damage the pins sooo,

should the clicky release button be IN or OUT when inserting the card?

it doesn’t mention the card at all in the quick start guide.

I’ll check the online manual nao.

thank you all kindly :relieved::pray:

The button should pop up when inserting the Card.

  1. The eject button should be pushed all the way in before inserting your card
  2. Line the card up and gently insert
  3. Done!

I don’t understand how people are damaging the pins on their OTs. Maybe if you’ve had six beers and try to slam it in, you could have problems. My OT stays in the studio and I pretty much only ever eject the card for posts like this.

The button does not change state when you insert the card. If the button is out, inserting the card will leave it out, making it easy to accidentally eject. If the button is in, it will stay in.

awesome. and this side up?

Nope, throw out the Octacard and go buy a real card.

Edit: yes, that side up, but don’t trust gear-labeled cards. Go get a nice Sandisk.

Edit2: all actions should be smooth. There is a slight amount of resistance as you insert the card. If you need to use force, reverse everything and try again.

Edit3: don’t actually throw out the octacard. Put it back in the OT’s box so you can hand it off when you eventually sell your OT. Just don’t trust it. Sorry, Elektron.

Mine was popped out. I didn’t notice that you could push it back for safety. Thanks @obscurerobot!

Great advice! I wish I could go back about year in time knowing the Octacards are junk:

Elektron support actually sent me a new Octacard after that and they assured me it was a different manufacturer, but I don’t know if there’s an easy way to identify the bad cards.

Safest to just get a trusted brand, because losing work really sucks! Also… probably goes without saying: back up frequently

Don’t throw the “Octacard” out. Get a card reader and back up the cards contents into your computer. Save the card for when you get so frustrated with the OT and you sell it, OEM card included! I use a SanDisk 64GB extreme and I never remove it. All data and back ups, etc. are by USB.

Congratulations on your Octatrack!
The 64 Gb Sandisk extreme is very nice.

Except dont sell your Octatrack when it frustrates you. Learn that shit!
Im happy for you!

Ive got the same 16GB sandisk card it came with in 2015. Taken it out once or twice to have a look. Still have 9GB free space after 8 years heavy use.

I think you have to be a proper doofus to damage the pins inside.
