How to: Control the ipad via OT Mk2

I have searched and found a few threads related to this often asked question, however there’s nothing that explains how to do it

I would like to control ipad apps with the octatrack mk2 . Mainly just sequencing to be fair.

I have an ipad mini 2

I have a cck

I have the midimate esi usb to midi cable (as suggested by @t I believe, in another thread)

I have the midi out going from octatrack, into the USB which is connected to the cck.

Now what? I’ve played around with various apps and there doesn’t appear to be any midi being received on any of them.

I know I’m missing something, but I’m finding it hard to work out what that may be!

Any suggestions or help are great fully received.

Happy to try it on any app, if a walk through is available.

I currently have:

Model 15
Patterning
Strom
Garageband
Bassline
(a couple of others that I can’t think of without looking)

Mods**- I have searched as I know this is a popular topic so please move and point me in the right direction, if there’s a ear explanation somewhere that I’ve missed.**

Thanks!

you know how to activate the midi output channels on OT, right?

if not, tell me, and I will explain further on that topic.

…So…

Set your midi output channel on Track 1 (midi sequencer, track 1)

Make sure the same midi channel is selected in your Model 15 app.

Put OT in ‘chromatic mode’ and play a few notes.

Is Model 15 responding?

It should be.

Press MIDI on the OT Mk2?

Ace. Thanks I will give that a go later on.

I’ve had no issues with the moog mother being sequenced, so clearly having some kind of brain fart here.

yep, press midi to enter the midi sequencer. the main audio sequencer sequences the 8 audio tracks.

the midi button opens up 8 midi tracks.

go to set up the channel by pressing the first button under the screen. turn the encoder to change the channel, and the important bit it to PRESS THE ENCODER to set the channel.

you will now be sending on whichever channel you selected and set by pressing the encoder.

A MIDI monitoring app may be useful for diagnosing MIDI integration issues. Recent thread on AB forum:

Oh thanks for this-really handy.

I have very good results with Alesis midi hub + iPad + hardware. It has audio out too.
Or ZOOM U24 sound card/midi interface . I got both, work great.
You can have 2 way communication between.
