How to change velocities when programming drum pattern in octatrack

Hi,

I am new to Octatrack and maybe this was covered before or please correct me if it is very obviously a silly question. I would like to change velocities of my hats when programming drum patterns, but I struggle to find any information on it. Is this something that you can’t do or is there a way of achieving similar results with some effects?

Thanks everyone!

You do this with what are called “parameter locks” or “p-locks”.

Tap the [Amp] button to view the amp page. Tap [Rec] to enter Record mode. Hold the [Trig] you want to alter the volume of and then turn knob [D] which corresponds to “Vol” on the screen.

p-locks are a core part of the Elektron sequencer/workflow. All the Elektron instruments with sequencers allow p-locks. You can p-lock any parameter on any settings page ([Src], [Amp]… etc). You can’t p-lock the settings on the “setup pages” (the ones shown when you hold [Func] before tapping any of the page buttons, or double-tap the buttons).

You can also enter p-locks in live recording mode. Hold [Rec], tap [Play] and then turn the desired knob. The sequencer will fill with “lock trigs” (which are trigs that don’t play a note but which do hold a p-lock). On the OT they’re green (note trigs are red); on the AR they’re yellow. If you have some note trigs on the sequencer already, whilst you’re turning the knobs, they’ll stay, and the new parameter setting will be set for that note/trig.

Wow! Thanks very much Octagonist, I will give it a go and might come back with more questions. This is great!

You could also set an LFO to volume if you don’t want to p-lock every hit.

This is great. I use it all the time on hats. I also put another LFO to pan those hats. .
